Kučevo brings together the Pek River and views of the Homolje Mountains with a strong focus on culture. Traditional folk culture from eastern Serbia, a viewpoint and two routes with different uses give the town several sides to consider when planning your trip. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth first deciding what you want your stay to focus on: scenery and views, cultural events or outdoor activity.

Views of the Pek and Homolje

From the “Jelena Stena” viewpoint, you can see Kučevo, the Pek River, the Zviška Basin and the Homolje Mountains. The view brings the town, river, basin and mountains together. There is also a large metal cross and a rest area, offering a place to pause. The Pek is not only part of the view from above; it also flows through Kučevo. It is therefore part of both the panorama and the river course through the town. For anyone who wants to get to know Kučevo through its landscape, Jelena Stena offers a specific point of interest.

Culture with different time frames

“Homoljski Motivi” is a tourism and cultural event celebrating the traditional folk culture of eastern Serbia in the municipality of Kučevo; it has been held continuously since 1968. Since 1981, the “Dragan Kecman” Cultural Centre has supported cultural life throughout Kučevo and the municipality. The two subjects complement each other: “Homoljski Motivi” gives the folk culture of eastern Serbia a specific event, while the Cultural Centre represents the broader cultural life of the town and municipality.

Another event is “Sajam cveća”, held in Kučevo since 2018. It takes place at Veljka Dugoševića Square, in May; whether it goes ahead and its timing depend on the epidemiological situation. If the event is a factor in choosing your travel dates, check the current programme in advance. Compared with “Homoljski Motivi”, “Sajam cveća” has a more recent history and a specifically stated May date.

Two routes, different ways to enjoy them

There are two routes with different descriptions to choose from for outdoor activity. The “Primary School–River” route is considered easy and is recommended for all age groups, regardless of current fitness. Kučevo–Rakova Bara–Tumane is a hiking and cycling route. This gives you different points to consider when choosing: the first route is defined by its low level of difficulty, while the second is intended for walking or cycling. This distinction helps you choose a route based on the type of activity you want, rather than treating both routes as the same.

The Belgrade–Požarevac–Majdanpek–Bor–Zaječar railway line also passes through Kučevo. If you are considering travelling by train, check the connections for your travel dates.

Kučevo as a holiday apartment destination

When choosing a holiday apartment in Kučevo, it helps to first decide what you are travelling for. If you are interested in an event, the May date of “Sajam cveća” and the current programme may be relevant. For an active trip, the two routes offer different options; if you are interested in the scenery, Jelena Stena is the specific viewpoint to visit.
