Alexandrov: Park Trail, Riverside and Museums
Accommodation in Alexandrov
Alexandrov offers a variety of ways to spend the day outdoors or in historic buildings: a 150-metre trail in the city park, walking paths along the Sera, and cultural attractions ranging from the fortress to the literary museum. Families will also find practical ideas for planning, including a playground and creative activities. The experiences that interest you most can help you plan your stay and guide your search for a holiday rental.
Short walks in green spaces and along the river
The historical and ecological route “Milyj serdzu Alexandrov” is 150 metres long. It connects the central section of the city park, created for Alexandrov’s 200th anniversary, with Sobornaya Square, and runs between the upper and lower parts of the park. The route officially opened on 29 May 2026. Information boards tell visitors about the region’s plant and animal life; audio guides are available via QR codes. Before your visit, check the route’s current condition, as well as the condition of the information boards and the availability of the audio guides.
The Peschanaya Embankment on the left bank of the Sera offers a different experience. It has walking paths, benches and a playground. This gives you a choice between two different ways to spend time outdoors: a short, themed route through the city park and a riverside area with room to stroll and relax. The playground is a practical point of reference for families planning their visit.
Fortress, churches and exhibitions
The Alexandrovskaya Sloboda is located on the right bank of the Sera. The Old Russian fortress was built from the 15th century onwards. Its complex includes the Trinity Cathedral; the churches of Pokrovskaya, Uspenskaya, Sretenskaya and Raspyatskaya; and the Church of St. Theodore Stratelates. It also includes the hospital building and the monastic cell building, the Abbess’s House and the Vodonaliwnaya Palatka. Admission is charged for exhibitions and guided tours; check access and costs before your trip.
The exhibition “Gosudarev Dvor” is housed in the Uspenskaya Church. Its exhibits include a replica of Ivan IV’s carved throne and a printing press. Another way to explore history is the interactive programme “Choosing the Tsar’s Bride,” which draws on a legend about a 16th-century royal bride selection. The bride selection is presented as a legend; check in advance whether the programme will be available during your visit.
Museums and creative activities
The Alexandrov Art Museum combines theatrical guided tours with other hands-on activities. Its offerings include the tours “A Visit to Merchant Pervushin” and “A Visit to Dunyasha,” as well as workshops, treasure hunts and interactive programmes for celebrations such as Maslenitsa, Easter and Svyatki. Dates and availability may vary.
The Marina and Anastasia Tsvetaeva Museum Quarter includes the “Tsvetaeva Cottage” at 5 Voyenny Lane and the “Lebedev House” at 6 Voyenny Lane. The quarter also features a two-storey stone house and a memorial garden. The permanent exhibition at the Marina and Anastasia Tsvetaeva Literary and Art Museum focuses on the years the sisters spent in Alexandrov. Check whether the exhibition is available before your visit. The Handmade Stone Museum opened in 1964.
Visitors who want to make something themselves can try pottery or make a doll at the “Tsar’s Workshop” creative centre in the monastic cell building of the Alexandrovskaya Sloboda. Ask in advance whether these activities are available. This means the cultural offerings take different forms, from exhibitions and theatrical guided tours to hands-on activities.
Experiences to help guide your holiday rental search
When choosing a holiday rental in Alexandrov, it may help to first consider what kind of daily routine you want: would you like your stay to include short walks outdoors and a break by the river, or do you want to set aside more time for the fortress, museums and hands-on activities? The 150-metre park trail, the embankment with its playground and the range of cultural offerings provide concrete points of comparison. This way, you can focus your search on the experiences that interest you most in Alexandrov.
