The existing page names Torzhok; the linked location record describes the wider Torzhok District in Tver Oblast. This distinction matters when choosing a holiday apartment: Vasilyovo Open-Air Museum is outside the historic city, and Znamenskoye-Raek Estate has been closed to visitors since July 2026. An offer named Torzhok is not necessarily near the attraction you want to visit.

A visit to Vasilyovo Open-Air Museum

The Vasilyovo Museum of Architecture and Ethnography is located on the terraces of the right bank of the Tvertsa, about six kilometres north of the historic city of Torzhok. It was founded in 1976 on the grounds of the former estate of the Lvov family. The estate was a landscape and architectural complex dating from the late 18th to the early 19th century. The museum grounds are therefore not just a collection of individual buildings, but are set within a historic landscape of their own.

A particularly striking feature is the approximately 100-metre-long arched bridge known as “Devil’s Bridge,” with two grottoes. It is made of dry-laid boulders held together by gravity alone. A lime-tree avenue, once leading to the manor house, has also been preserved on the former estate grounds. The branches have been pruned so that the crowns meet above the path to form a green canopy. The bridge and avenue are two different aspects of the same museum visit: an engineering structure and a designed landscape.

For groups, general guided tours of the grounds are listed for Wednesdays to Sundays at 12 noon. This is time-sensitive information, not a guarantee for a future visit date. Check opening times and tour availability directly with the museum, especially if a tour is the main reason for your trip. The stated distance from the historic city is not a walking distance from every holiday apartment in the district.

Znamenskoye-Raek Estate: currently not open to visitors

The Znamenskoye-Raek palace and park ensemble dates from the 18th century and was designed by N. A. Lvov. Its architectural significance makes it relevant to the district’s history. However, the grounds have been closed to visitors since 24 July 2026 because of restoration work. The verified information expressly prohibits access to the construction site, interiors, ruinous buildings, and park. Do not plan a walk around the grounds, and do not confuse historical significance with current accessibility.

Before a future trip, an official reopening announcement could change the situation. Until then, Vasilyovo is the documented museum destination for a day out, while Znamenskoye-Raek should be described only as a closed historic landmark. This helps you avoid a day’s itinerary that ends at a barrier.

Choose a holiday apartment based on your actual destination

If you want to visit the open-air museum, compare the exact accommodation address with its location north of Torzhok. If you are planning a city stay, you will need different location criteria. For holiday apartments and holiday homes, check the guest capacity, amenities, and terms of the specific listing; the district record does not confirm that any properties are available. The old page title does not imply that there is an apartment in the historic centre or that visitors are allowed onto the closed estate.
