Semiluzhki combines religious life with memories of a journey made by Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich. The church, street pavilion and Cossack fort give the town several historical points of interest. When planning your trip, it is worth first considering whether you want your stay to focus on Semiluzhki itself or also on other cultural attractions in the wider destination of Tomsk Oblast.

Church and historical memorial sites

Regular services are held at the Church of St Nicholas the Wonderworker. This offers a distinct way to engage with the town’s history and present-day life, alongside its architectural memorial sites.

In 2017, a replica of the street pavilion was built in Semiluzhki. The original had been constructed specifically to welcome Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich. It was built for his journey from Mariinsk to Tomsk. The pavilion exhibition covers the journey, preparations for the welcome and the reception of the distinguished guest in Tomsk Governorate. The pavilion is therefore linked to a specific journey, while the Semiluzhensky Cossack fort offers another historical point of interest: it has been reconstructed to reflect its original appearance.

If you are particularly interested in the local memorial sites, you can focus your search for a holiday rental on Semiluzhki. If you would also like to explore other cultural attractions in Tomsk Oblast, take their locations into account when choosing where to stay.

Culture in the wider destination of Tomsk Oblast

In the wider destination of Tomsk Oblast, the “Chumel Chvech” Museum offers a different perspective on history: it introduces visitors to the culture and everyday life of the southern Selkup group, who live in Parabelsky District. Visits must be arranged in advance. Among the museum’s first buildings are homes and everyday structures, including a half-dugout with a pyramidal roof that was used until the 17th century, the “chulmat” log cabin, a clay oven, raised granaries on stilts and a Russian log cabin with a vegetable garden. These examples illustrate different forms of construction and everyday life.

In Podgornoye, the Kulai Culture Museum is dedicated to an ancient cultural and historical community that existed from the 5th century BC to the 5th century AD. Artifacts were first found near Mount Kulaika. A guided tour of the permanent exhibition covers the archaeological Kulai culture and the world of the Kulai; tours are intended for groups of 2 to 25 people during working hours. Confirm visiting arrangements with the museum in advance. Characteristic Kulai bronze casting includes flat openwork, flat solid and hollow forms.

“Okolitsa” Park is also one of the cultural attractions in Tomsk Oblast. You can view the works of craftspeople there year-round; special event areas showcase traditions shaped by Russian, Tatar, Chinese, Uzbek, Selkup and other cultures. The park is also the traditional venue for the International Folk Arts and Crafts Festival “Prazdnik Topora.” Held in Tomsk Oblast since 2008, the festival includes four competitions for craftspeople, a large fair of decorative and applied arts, and a concert programme. Hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators from across the country and nearby foreign countries attend; specific dates and programme vary from year to year.
