In Kaftanchikovo, several green spaces can be located using specific streets and buildings as reference points: birch groves, pine and mixed forests, and a small park. The reference points range from the post office and stadium to a house number, a highway and an administrative building. Before visiting any of these areas, it is advisable to check whether they are accessible.

Birch Groves Along Streets and Near Landmarks

Along Kommunisticheskaya Street, a birch grove stretches from the post office to the stadium, on the left side of the street. More birch groves lie on both sides of the road along the stretch from the stadium to the turnoff for Sadovaya Street. Another grove on Novaya Street extends from house No. 24 to the road leading to the farm. The areas described are therefore distinguished by their respective road sections and endpoints: first the post office and stadium, then the stadium and turnoff, and finally a house number and access road.

Forests and a Small Park

The pine forest stretches from the new cemetery to the road to Takhtamyshevo and includes the grounds of former Pioneer camps. A mixed forest extends from the FOG company to the Tomsk–Yurga highway and lies on its right-hand side. The small park is on the left side of the administrative building of the Zarechnoye rural settlement. Thus, the reference points vary: roads and settlement outskirts for the forests, and an administrative building for the park.

The birch groves, forests and park mentioned above were designated specially protected natural areas by Resolution No. 54 of the Council of the Zarechnoye rural settlement dated May 31, 2006. The location details can help you choose a holiday rental; check them against the specific accommodation address rather than assuming it is in a particular location.

More Nature and Culture in Tomsk Oblast

One cultural highlight in Tomsk Oblast is the “Chumel Chvech” Museum on Lake Oskino in Parabelsky District. It introduces visitors to the culture and everyday life of the southern Selkup group living in the district; visits are by prior arrangement. The first museum buildings include a half-dugout hut used until the 17th century, with a pyramidal roof; the “Chulmat” log house; a clay oven; stilted storage buildings; and a Russian log house with a vegetable garden. These buildings illustrate different forms of housing and everyday life.

Okolitsa Park offers another regional cultural attraction: works by artisans can be viewed there year-round. Special event areas showcase traditions shaped by Russian, Tatar, Chinese, Uzbek, Selkup and other cultures. The park is also the traditional venue for the “Prazdnik Topora” festival, held in Tomsk Oblast since 2008. The festival includes four competitions for artisans, a large decorative and applied arts fair, and a concert programme. It attracts hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators from across the country and nearby countries; dates and programme vary from year to year.
