Verkhnyaya Salda can be explored through its memorial sites, themed walking tours, and a district whose six buildings are covered on a guided tour. Those interested in local history will find different ways to engage with it here: memorials throughout the city, routes with named stops, and offerings from the local history museum, which are available on request. This focus can help guide your choice of holiday apartment: would you rather devote your days to monuments and walks, or also plan for guided insights into exhibitions and the history of individual buildings?

Memorial sites and their history

At the Square of Labor and Victory, a memorial complex erected in 1975 commemorates the residents of Salda who fell in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. The “Zhuravli” (“Cranes”) stele also stands in the square. It was erected on May 9, 2005, is about ten meters high, and depicts cranes flying upward. The different dates—1975 and 2005—make it possible to consider the two memorials as separate stops, even though they share the same square.

Another memorial site is the obelisk to A. A. Evstigneev, a fallen Hero of the Soviet Union. It stands on Engels Street, opposite the G. D. Agarkov Palace of Culture, and was erected in May 1967. The Palace of Culture provides a precise location, while the date of installation places the obelisk in time. Together with the two memorials erected later in the square, it broadens the view of the different dedications represented in the city’s local memorial history.

Themed trails and local history museum offerings

The “Neverovskaya Tropa” (“Neverov Trail”) themed walking tour is linked to selected sights. Its listed stops include the monument to the residents of Salda who fell in the Great Patriotic War and the Verkhnesaldinsk School of Arts, with its “Iskusstvo” (“Art”) panel. The listed stops bring remembrance and art together. If you include the trail in your plans, check its current condition in advance.

Another themed walking route is listed under the title “Park truda i pobedy — mesto voinskoy slavy saldintsev” (“Park of Labor and Victory—A Place of Military Glory for the Residents of Salda”). Its name alone sets a different tone: it connects labor and victory with the military glory of the residents of Salda.

The Verkhnyaya Salda Local History Museum currently offers walking and bus tours outside the museum on request; its main building is closed to visitors for repairs. The museum also works outside its premises with organized groups by request: it gives themed lectures and interactive presentations, and offers guided tours of traveling exhibitions. These exhibitions are held at city venues such as administrative buildings, libraries, schools, and clubs. The offerings therefore range from excursions and lectures to exhibition tours at various locations around the city.

The walking city tour of the Demidovsky District covers the history of its six buildings. The booking season runs from May 1 to November 30; confirm specific dates before planning this tour. Unlike the themed walk with selected destinations, this tour focuses on the history of a district and its buildings.
