Severka combines a distinctive rocky ridge with natural and cultural themes from different periods. In the settlement, visitors can climb the Severskiye Palatki rocks; nearby are Lake Peschanoye and the Severka rock carving.

Rocky Ridge, Climb and Winter Sledding

The Severskiye Rocks form a rocky ridge several hundred metres long, running from west to east and comprising several rock outcrops. The outcrops, up to 20–25 metres high, are located near Severka railway station. The ridge is also called Severskiye-Kamenniye-Palatki. Visitors can climb the Severskiye Palatki rocks in Severka. In winter, people sled down the slope near the western rock. This brings together a climb in Severka and a seasonal activity nearby.

Lake and Getting There

Lake Peschanoye is about five kilometres from Severka railway station and can be reached on foot from there. It is a nearby destination. Severka railway station is served by suburban trains; allow 30 minutes as a general guide for the journey from Yekaterinburg. Check the current timetable before departure.

Forest History and Natural History

The “Ural Forest” visitor centre is located in Severka. Guests can learn about the history of the village of Severka, the Ural educational and experimental forestry district, and forestry in the Urals. The centre has a mineral collection; the area's plant diversity is also among the topics covered. This brings natural history and local history together in one place. If you plan to make the centre a set part of your itinerary, check the current access arrangements in advance.

Rock Carving and Local History

Nearby, the Severka rock carving is also known as the “Rock of the Dancing Men” because of its seven scientifically documented anthropomorphic figures. The figures are depicted in human-like form. The rock carving dates from about 4,000 to 5,000 years ago, at the transition from the Late Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age.

A much more recent historical landmark in Severka is the Church of St. John of Kronstadt. Construction was completed in 2014, and it was consecrated on 6 July by Metropolitan Kirill of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye. Together, the rock carving and the church offer two very different points of reference for exploring the history of the village and its surroundings.

Choose the Right Location for Your Trip

When looking for a holiday apartment, the distinction between Severka and the nearby area is a useful starting point. The rocky climb, visitor centre and church are located in Severka; Lake Peschanoye and the rock carving are nearby. Consider which of these themes will be the main focus of your stay, and factor this geographical distinction into your choice of location.
