Yekaterinburg offers a variety of ways to explore the city: walking routes through historic neighborhoods, cultural events and environmental education programs. The search for a holiday apartment can also help shape which of these experiences define your stay. Options range from a route through the historic center to walks through lesser-known neighborhoods.

Explore Neighborhoods on Foot

The “Krasnaya liniya” is a tourist walking route through the historic center of Yekaterinburg. The “Yekaterinburg – gorod 7 rayonov” project offers other perspectives on the city: it uses guidebooks, excursions, exhibitions, art installations, memory books and souvenirs to give residents new perspectives on their familiar surroundings. The project also includes walking routes exploring lesser-known neighborhoods of Yekaterinburg.

Pocket guide maps for lesser-known neighborhoods offer another way to find your bearings. They cover five neighborhoods: Zarechny, Parkovy, Pionersky, Staraya Sortirovka and Uktus. Each map includes a brief history of the neighborhood, its main attractions and a walking route. This lets you choose between a route through the historic center and insights into other neighborhoods when planning your trip, rather than treating all walks as the same city experience.

Cultural events also complement these routes. In the Yekaterinburg municipality, the Yekaterinburg History Museum’s event calendar lists exhibitions, concerts and lectures. Individual listings may change, so if a particular event is important to your trip, check the calendar again while planning.

Environmental Education and Park Visits

Shartash Forest Park is a protected area of regional significance. At the park, the “Ekodom” visitor center offers free environmental education programs, as well as environmental events and workshops; registration is required for the programs. In addition to city walks, you can choose activities focused on environmental education. Keep the registration requirement in mind if you plan to include a program in your stay.

Mayakovsky Central Park of Culture and Recreation is served by trolleybus 28 and tram lines 3, 6, 9, 10, 20, 21 and 33. This is a useful reference point if the park is on your itinerary. Check the routes before traveling, as they may change.

Yekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk Oblast

Sverdlovsk Oblast also offers options for planning a broader trip. In Verkhnyaya Pyshma, the Museum Complex of Civil and Military Equipment has more than 15,000 exhibits, including more than 2,000 civilian and military vehicles. These collection figures may change over time. The complex is a separate destination within Sverdlovsk Oblast and should not be confused with the attractions described in the Yekaterinburg municipality.

For road trips, the Sverdlovsk Oblast permit list published in 2026 names several routes. The Demidov Route connects Yekaterinburg, Nevyansk and Nizhny Tagil. “Along the Iset to the Sound of the Bell: A Trip to Kamensk-Uralsky” runs between Yekaterinburg and Kamensk-Uralsky; the route title alone does not specify any additional stops. “Discovering the Urals: Nature, History, Legends” connects Yekaterinburg, Irbit, Turinsk and Tavda. Check the route information before setting out. This will help you decide whether to focus your stay on city walks and culture or include a road trip through other places in the oblast.
