Lisy Nos offers several ways to get to know the area: through its parkland and old trees, the memory of the Small Road of Life, or historic wooden architecture. There is also a local library where local history is a popular subject, and buildings that bring different chapters of the area’s history to life. When planning a stay, you can first consider which of these themes interests you most.

Park History and Landscape

The park layout, created in 1745 around a wooden palace, has been preserved in Blizhnie Dubki Park. Old deciduous trees have also survived; most of them are oaks. The park is designated a cultural heritage site of regional significance. The “U Lukomorya” ecological trail runs through the park. The park’s long history, its trees and an ecologically focused trail can all be enjoyed here.

The island of Verperluda is also part of the municipality. It is an important breeding site for waterbirds. Species that nest there include gulls, tufted ducks, mallards, great crested grebes and coots. The island broadens the view of the municipality’s natural environment; it should be understood as part of the Lisy Nos municipality.

The Small Road of Life and Its Monument

The Small Road of Life began operating in November 1941. Its route started in the area of the settlements of Lisy Nos and Gorskaya, and remained in operation until the Siege of Leningrad was lifted in January 1944. The “Doroga Muzhestva” monument in Lisy Nos commemorates this route. It was erected on April 14, 2015, and opened on May 8, 2015: the erection and the ceremonial opening were therefore on two different dates.

The monument depicts a soldier in a greatcoat on a granite pedestal. Holding a lantern, he guides vehicles along an ice road. This specific motif connects the memory of the route with a vivid image. For people travelling together, it can prompt a conversation about the history of the Small Road of Life, which lies behind the monument’s name.

Church and Fortress Architecture

As the dacha settlement of Vladimirovka, today’s Lisy Nos, grew more built-up and its population increased, a new parish church was needed. A fixed date in the local church chronicle is July 28, 1917, when the newly built Church of Prince Vladimir was solemnly consecrated.

Another architectural point of interest is the building of the powder magazines and laboratories. It is part of the fortifications of Kronstadt Fortress and is crowned with a gable. Its elaborate “brick style” design makes the architecture a striking detail. Those interested in architecture will find here a different way to explore the area’s history than at the park or the monument.

Wooden Houses and Local History

The Lisy Nos library is housed in an early 20th-century wooden building at the corner of Baltijski and Mariinski avenues. The house was built in 1910 by merchant J. E. Kruglov for his family. In addition to its architectural history, the library offers a programme for visitors: it holds events for all age groups, and local history is one of its most popular subjects. If you would like to plan a visit around a particular event, check the schedule in advance.

Other houses also preserve notable wooden details. The wooden house of P. A. Yuzakina has carved window frames and a carved cornice. Other described features include a wooden veranda with a barrel-shaped roof supported by two carved columns, as well as stoves inside clad in white tiles. The dacha at 3 Kholmistaya Street is designated a cultural heritage site of regional significance.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Lisy Nos, you can plan your stay around your interests: the park’s history and old oaks, the memory of the Small Road of Life, or the details of historic wooden houses each offer a different focus. For families and other people travelling together, the soldier’s lantern, the trees and the carved architectural features offer tangible starting points for conversations about the landscape, history and architecture.
