Yagodnoye lies on the banks of the Volga and directly borders the Yagodinsky Bor. The river and the adjacent forest give the village two distinct landscape features. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Yagodnoye, you could first consider whether you are coming primarily for the Volga or would also like to include the neighboring Bor in your plans for your stay.

Churches and Architecture in Yagodnoye

Several churches, whose construction histories and designs offer different points of interest, are among the village’s cultural landmarks. Construction of the All Saints Church in Yagodnoye began in 2015; the main building was completed in 2018. This sequence offers a brief glimpse into the village’s recent architectural history.

The architectural ensemble of the Resurrection Church complex comprises a single-nave church with a bell tower, a children’s educational center building, a children’s playground, and utility buildings. Together, these components combine a religious building, educational and utility buildings, and a playground.

The Church of Peter and Fevronia offers a different architectural accent: it is a wooden church in the shape of an equal-armed cross, with a tent-shaped roof and two domes. One dome is above the central structure, and the other is above the bell tower, over the entrance hall. By contrast, the Resurrection Church complex is characterized by its single-nave church with a bell tower and the ensemble’s other components.

Samara Oblast: Nature and Culture in a Wider Context

Beyond Yagodnoye, Samara Oblast offers its own natural and cultural setting. Samarskaya Luka is formed by a bend in the Volga and the Usinsky Bay of the Kuibyshev Reservoir. It includes Samarskaya Luka National Park and the Zhiguli Nature Reserve. Molodetsky Kurgan lies in the northwest of Samarskaya Luka; a picturesque, 75-kilometer-long ridge of the Zhiguli Mountains begins there. From the kurgan, views extend over the man-made Zhiguli Sea, the opposite bank of the Volga, Tolyatti, and the village of Zhiguli. More than 200 rare and endangered plant species are found on the kurgan. Its facilities include two nature trails, rest areas, a parking lot, and a picnic area.

Samara Oblast also has cultural destinations: the Domik Repina museum complex is located in the village of Shiryaevo, within the national park. It introduces visitors to the way of life of 19th-century peasants and merchants. Stepan Razin Cave is one of the largest karst caves in Samarskaya Luka; its surroundings are considered a historical and natural-geological monument.

For active days, Samarskaya Luka offers a variety of routes. The “Zhigulyovsky Labyrinth” passes through most of the national park and provides access to natural and cultural attractions. The horse-riding route takes seven days, is about 140 kilometers long, and can also be traveled on foot or by bicycle; its season is listed as May through September. Shorter themed trails offer other points of interest: the “LukAmorje” nature trail is less than one kilometer long and introduces visitors to the plants of Samarskaya Luka. The 1.3-kilometer “Vedmino ozero” nature trail starts at the entrance to Bakhilovo. Along the way, visitors learn about the village’s origins; at the lake, they hear old stories and legends of the Mordvins.

The 14-kilometer “Gora Strelnaya” driving and hiking route passes through relict natural communities such as rocky steppes and mountain pine forests. The walking route includes a guided tour about the history of the nature reserve, its natural environment, and the formation of the Zhiguli Mountains. Hiking excursions are also organized in the national park, and bus-and-hiking routes showcase the diversity of Samarskaya Luka. Restrictions apply to visits to the national park. Check the latest park notices and the operating details for each trail before planning your visit.
