Shigonskiy District offers different perspectives on culture and landscape: in Taydakovo, a memorial and museums recall history and everyday Chuvash life; near Podvalye, chalk slopes and terraces shape the landscape. When planning your trip, you can choose how to balance cultural sites and nature.

Memorial Site and Everyday Chuvash Life

In the village of Taydakovo, an obelisk stands on Stepan Razin Street, near number 4 and a road that runs through the village. It commemorates the baptism of the Chuvash people in 1829. In December 2014, the obelisk was listed as a cultural heritage site of regional significance and classified as a memorial and a monument of urban planning and architecture.

The village museums also give the cultural theme a tangible form: there are school museums in Bayderyakovo and Taydakovo, and small museums of everyday Chuvash life are located in libraries. If you would like to visit one of these museums, it is best to check visiting arrangements in advance.

Salt fairs are held every year on the grounds of the Museum of the History of the Usollie Region. The program includes performances by creative groups, traditional children's games, workshops and museum tours. When planning your trip, it is advisable to check the current event dates and program.

Chalk Slopes, Terraces and Nature

The Podvalskiye Terraces are located near Podvalye: they are terraced frontal escarpments formed by landslides on chalk slopes. The terraces have a height difference of up to 100 meters. A colony of marmots lives on their terraced slopes and is considered the largest in the region. The combination of striking landforms and wildlife makes this area especially interesting to anyone with an interest in nature and geology.

The Chuvash Hill (Chuvashskiy bugor) is located near Usollie, in the surrounding area of the destination. This small rocky ridge has a steep grassy slope and internal hollows known as karst depressions; it is also a natural monument of regional significance. In the chalk landscape of Podvalye, a narrow path runs along the ridge of Mount Ilyinka. Check in advance whether a visit is possible.

This will help you choose a location based on the experiences you want to prioritize during your trip.
