Votkinsk: Water, paths and Tchaikovsky

Votkinsk can be explored from different perspectives through its water, outdoor paths and the history of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Votkinsk Pond is one of the city’s important historic and natural places. Beach, pond and time outdoors

In summer, Ostrov Beach is an equipped sandy beach with easy access to the water. You can swim and sunbathe there; boating, SUP, catamarans, kayaks and water bikes are also available. The promenade along Votkinsk Pond is an equipped walking area with paths and benches. You can walk or cycle there and enjoy views of the water. City events are also held on the promenade; check specific dates before your visit. The Meduza excursion boat runs regular cruises, each lasting 60 minutes. Sila Lesa Park has a health trail for walking, running and outdoor exercise, as well as a sports ground. A ski trail is used for skiing in winter; during the warmer months, it is used for walking, roller skiing and cycling. Viewpoints in the park offer views of Votkinsk Pond. Tchaikovsky and the city’s history

At the P. I. Tchaikovsky Museum-Estate, visitors can tour the memorial rooms, learn about the daily life of the Tchaikovsky family and see original objects from the composer’s life. A monument to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was erected in 1990 opposite his birthplace. He was baptised at the Annunciation Cathedral. Together, these places offer different ways to explore his story: through personal mementos, a monument and a historic period of his life.

The Votkinsk Museum of History and Culture presents the exhibition “Gorod-zavod.” It covers the city’s history from its founding to the beginning of the 20th century. The “Lad” natural and ethnographic exhibition complements this perspective with original everyday objects from the 19th century. The museum offers thematic routes for visitors, including walking and combined routes. The overview route “Na sluzhbe Otechestvu” connects the museum galleries with the city surroundings; ask the museum about its current availability.

The Museum of Medicine is devoted to the history of medicine in the city. Exhibits include historic medical instruments and equipment, archival material, and more than 20 models of organs and body systems. The collection includes, among other things, a historic dentist’s chair, pharmacy bottles from the 19th and 20th centuries, books on obstetrics and uniform items from various years. It also features more than 200 photographs and documents relating to local medical history. A biological collection of real specimens includes a broad tapeworm and a roundworm; a model ambulance and a reconstruction of a hospital room are also on display. At Park Pobedy, military equipment, sculptures and memorials illustrate the bravery of soldiers and important periods in Udmurtia’s military history. The exhibits include an 85 mm 52-K anti-aircraft gun, Model 1939. It was manufactured in 1942 and took part in combat operations during the Great Patriotic War. Another cultural attraction is the puppet museum, the first museum of its kind in Udmurtia.
