Novaya Tura is located on the Kazan–Nizhny Novgorod highway, 22 km east of the city of Zelenodolsk. These two specific reference points help place the settlement geographically.

Cultural Sites in Novaya Tura

The mosque in Novaya Tura, which opened in 2024, has capacity for 250 worshippers. It includes separate halls for men and women, as well as rooms for children’s classes. If you are interested in religious architecture, the mosque is a notable local cultural site; its capacity and layout also give an impression of the building’s arrangement.

The spring “Chishme” offers a different perspective on the settlement. According to a report from July 2026, clean spring water was available to everyone who came there. The mosque and the spring thus highlight two distinct local themes: religious architecture and a natural spring. Check before visiting whether the water is still available.

Cultural Attractions in the Wider Destination of the Republic of Tatarstan

The wider destination of the Republic of Tatarstan offers a cultural range that spans religious buildings and museums. The Kazan Kremlin includes the Kul Sharif Mosque, the 16th-century Annunciation Cathedral, and the Söyembikä Tower. Since 1992, the Kremlin has served as the state center of the Republic of Tatarstan; it was declared a museum reserve in 1994 and added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.

The Old Tatar Quarter in Kazan contains further historical landmarks: the quarter has 75 historical and cultural monuments dating from the 18th to the early 20th century. The Mardjani Mosque was built between 1767 and 1770, funded by members of the congregation, and approved by Catherine II. It was the first stone mosque built after the reign of Ivan the Terrible.

The history of Sviyazhsk can also be traced through its buildings and collections. The Museum of the History of Sviyazhsk is housed in four buildings dating from 1838–1840 and presents the town’s founding and development in the 16th and 17th centuries. In the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God at the Holy Dormition Monastery, almost the entire cycle of murals from the second half of the 16th century has been preserved across an area of 1,080 square meters.

The Chak-Chak Museum in Kazan’s Old Tatar Quarter offers a culinary introduction. Visitors can sample traditional Tatar sweets and take part in a master class on making chak-chak. Before tea, a tour takes visitors through an exhibition about the Tatars’ daily life, traditions, and customs. Tastings include chak-chak, baursak, and almond kaktosh, made according to recipes by Tatar educator Kayum Nasyri. Check the latest information on dates and participation requirements in advance.
