Dunay: Ferries, Putyatin and Crafts
Accommodation in Dunay
Dunay is connected to Putyatin by ferry: four ferries depart daily from the pier in town for the island. They carry pedestrians and cars; with a car, you can then explore Putyatin. When looking for a holiday rental in Dunay, this is a practical aspect of planning: would you like to explore the island on foot or by car? Check the timetable before departure.
Putyatin: Lake, Lotus and Rocky Coast
The nearby island of Putyatin is home to several striking natural features. Lake Gusinoe is a natural monument of regional significance. Komarov’s lotus, a relict plant listed in the Red Book of Russia, grows by the lake. The lake and lotus offer a different focus from the island’s coastal formations.
Putyatin’s coast features the Pyat Pal'tsev rock formation, as well as the rocks Petukh, Slon and Drakon. Together with the lake and lotus, these offer different nature themes for a visit to the island: bodies of water and plant life on the one hand, and distinctive coastal rock formations on the other. This means the island can be explored not only via the ferry crossing, but also through its named landscape features.
Crafts in Dunay
Dunay itself also has a cultural connection: for several years, the town’s Women’s Council has organized the “Narodnykh Umeltsev” crafts fair. It adds another aspect to trip planning alongside the ferry connection and the natural features on Putyatin. Those interested in crafts can consider this local connection alongside a visit to the island; the fair and the natural attractions are distinct aspects of the destination.
Primorye Region: Cuisine and Nature
Beyond Dunay, Primorye Region offers its own culinary scene. The region’s cuisine brings together the traditions of different peoples. Dishes with East Asian influences include bibimbap, pyan-se and kimchi. Seafood such as oysters, mussels, crabs and scallops can be sampled in Primorye Region. Other regional dishes include salmon soup, pelmeni with scallops, fish pie, seaweed soup, home-smoked Pacific herring, and skoblyanka made with sea cucumber and whelk and served with vegetables. The region’s cuisine also includes pelmeni with shrimp and duck, fried rice with pork and vegetables, sweet-and-sour sauces, and meat marinated in pear.
Another natural attraction in Primorye Region is in the southwest: Zemlya Leoparda National Park. Amur tigers, lynxes, Far Eastern wildcats and Far Eastern leopards live in the park. The “Tropoy Leoparda” eco-trail is equipped with information boards, signs, interactive play features, bridges and viewpoints. The “Logovo Leoparda” route leads to a mountain whose caves provide leopards with shelter at times. These examples add to the picture of Primorye Region; Putyatin’s natural features and the national park’s routes are distinct destinations within the region.
