Sol-Iletsk combines a striking lake landscape with themes from the district’s history and military technology. The warm mud lake Tuzluchnoye lies 150 meters south of the cold Razval Lake; the local history museum and an open-air museum add salt production and historic technology to the view of the water.

Salt Lakes and Water Characteristics

The water in a lake near Sol-Iletsk is a saturated salt solution containing more than 200 grams of salt per liter. Its high salt content makes it denser than the human body; you cannot sink while swimming in it. The lakes’ location and salinity offer two concrete ways to explore water and salt in Sol-Iletsk.

District History and Military Technology

The exhibition at the Sol-Iletsk local history museum presents the history of the district. It was developed jointly by staff from the regional historical local history museum and the Sol-Iletsk museum. Salt production occupies a significant place in the exhibition.

The open-air military technology museum in Sol-Iletsk was established in 2013. Its vehicles include a T-55 tank, a BTR-70, a BMP-1, and a GAZ-51. They are joined by a 2S3 Akatsiya self-propelled gun and a 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system. The artillery pieces include a ZIS-3 76 mm gun, an M-30 122 mm howitzer, and a 2A65 152 mm howitzer; the collection is rounded out by the BM-13N Katyusha multiple rocket launcher. If particular exhibits are important to your plans, check the current exhibition before visiting, as exhibit details may change.

The “Border Guards of All Generations” monument was unveiled in the Military Technology Square in Sol-Iletsk. It is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Border Service.
