In Serpukhovskiy District, nature experiences lead to Prioksko-Terrasny Nature Reserve, while Podmoklovo is home to a remarkable example of Russian architecture. For families and other curious visitors, options range from guided bison watching to interactive activities at the eco-park. A nature museum and horse-riding activities can also be highlights of a stay.

Discover Nature at Prioksko-Terrasny

Prioksko-Terrasny Nature Reserve covers 5,000 hectares and is home to around 1,000 plant species and 56 mammal species. This diversity provides the setting for a range of nature experiences: you can explore the animal and plant life at the nature museum or watch bison on a guided excursion. Depending on your interests, you can focus your outing more on learning or on a shared activity.

Guided Bison Watching or a Walkway Above the Ground

On the “Doroga k zubram” eco-trail, visitors can watch bison from an observation tower as part of a guided excursion. The “Skvoz listvu” elevated eco-trail offers a different way to explore: it is eight metres above the ground and passes over ten information platforms connected by suspension bridges. The walk takes about 30 minutes. The trail is intended for independent visits by people of all ages, except those with health restrictions.

The two trails mainly differ in the kind of experience they offer: “Doroga k zubram” focuses on bison watching during a guided excursion, while “Skvoz listvu” allows visitors to take an independent walk across platforms and suspension bridges. The approximate duration of the elevated trail provides a helpful guide for planning this part of the day; it does not describe the length of a visit to the entire nature reserve.

Interactive Activities and Horse-Riding

The “Derevo-Dom” eco-park in the nature reserve consists of obstacles with interactive activities for children and adults. It operates from April to November in favourable weather, without precipitation or strong winds. This seasonal condition is important when planning: the activity combines movement with tasks and is not described as a year-round, all-weather option.

In Kleymenovo, visitors can meet farm animals and go horse riding at the “Bunin ruchey” family club. The riding club there offers lessons for children and adults. If lessons are important to your stay, check current availability directly with the club.

Wildlife and Plant Life at the Nature Museum

The nature reserve’s museum presents the animal and plant life of the southern Moscow region. Exhibits include wild boar, moose, roe deer, foxes and beavers, as well as birds and an insect collection. The exhibition adds specific examples of animals to the nature experiences and offers another perspective on the area’s biodiversity. For families, the museum can be a focus in its own right if, alongside outdoor activities and wildlife watching, they are interested in learning about different groups of animals.

Architecture in Podmoklovo

The Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Podmoklovo is an exceptional monument of Russian architecture. Prince Grigory Dolgoruki had it built in the early 18th century. Its history offers a clear contrast to the district’s nature-themed attractions: architecture enthusiasts will find a specific cultural highlight here, while the nature reserve is associated mainly with landscapes, biodiversity and wildlife watching.

Choose the Focus of Your Stay

When looking for a holiday rental in Serpukhovskiy District, it can help to first decide what kind of trip you want. Wildlife watching, the independent elevated trail, interactive activities, horse-riding and architecture each appeal to different interests. Check the stated conditions for weather-dependent activities and confirm the current availability of riding lessons with the club.
