Ramensky District: Parks, Gzhel Ceramics and Bykovo Estate
Accommodation in Ramensky District
Ramensky District offers plenty of reasons to explore: Ramensky City Park, with activities throughout the year; the history of Bykovo Estate; the architecture of Bykovo; and Gzhel ceramics. Gaya-Severin Ski Club adds another distinctive attraction. When planning your trip, it’s worth first considering which of these themes you want to shape your days—culture, parkland, crafts or sporting activities.
Ramensky City Park: Recreation and Culture
Ramensky City Park was once the Ramenskoye estate and has been a regional historical and cultural monument since 2001. Today, the park offers rides, children’s playgrounds and workshops throughout the year, along with cultural, recreational, sporting and health-related activities. For families planning a trip with children, the playgrounds and rides specifically intended for both children and adults are practical options for an outing together.
The park has 15 rides for children and adults, as well as eight sports grounds for different activities. Both numbers may change. Another feature is the centuries-old lindens and the restored Holy Trinity spring. Events are regularly held in the historic amphitheater and on the main Lira stage. If a particular event is important to your visit, check the dates for your travel period.
Bykovo: Estate History, Trees and Architecture
The park at Bykovo Estate covers 42 hectares. Its landscape includes two-hundred-year-old oaks and larches, old linden avenues and two ponds. A rotunda stands on an island. These details give the park its distinctive character: rows of trees, bodies of water and a structure on the island all contribute to the scene, without limiting the walk to a single destination.
A distinctive architectural landmark in Bykovo is the Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. This architectural monument was built in the late 18th century to a design by Vasily Bazhenov. Those interested in architectural history will find a different focus here than in the park with its avenues, ponds and rotunda.
Experience Gzhel Ceramics
Today, Ramensky Urban District is considered the home of one of the best-known folk crafts: Gzhel ceramics. In the village of Gzhel, the Gzhel Artistic Painting Factory regularly offers production tours that include a visit to the Gzhel Museum, as well as workshops. This combines a closer look at the ceramics with an insight into how they are made and a chance to get creative yourself.
In Rechitsy, the private Saltykov House Museum and Exhibition Center honors the famous Gzhel artist and his successors. Visitors can attend lectures, tour the exhibition space, and meet artists and musicians. A creative studio offers workshops on various types of ceramics. If you want to plan a particular tour, lecture or meeting, check the dates before your trip.
A Sporting Highlight
Gaya-Severin Ski Club has four runs of varying difficulty. Their total length is more than 1,000 meters, with a vertical drop of up to 75 meters. This makes it easy to distinguish a day focused on sports from a day in the park or a visit centered on Gzhel ceramics. To choose your vacation rental, it helps to prioritize the attractions that interest you most and include their respective addresses and dates in your plans.
