Gorki Leninskiye invites you to explore parkland and history together. At Gorki Manor Park, a formal park and a landscape park meet: the upper section lies on the level plateau behind the main house, while the lower section slopes steeply down to the riverbank. The grounds thus shift from an orderly, level area to a hillside park.

A Park of Water, Meadows and Clear Structure

In the landscape park, the Round Spring Pond and a large meadow on the slope shape the scene. The Turovka forms the natural lower boundary of the manor park; a second pond with a cascade was created along it. The spring pond, meadow, river and cascade give this part of the park its own sequence of landscape features. In contrast, the formal upper section is a clearly structured layout. Visitors interested in historic gardens will find two distinct types of park in one place at Gorki Leninskiye.

Archaeological Traces and Lenin’s Vehicle

In the upper park of the Gorki estate, 59 burial mounds of the Vyatichi have been preserved. The Vyatichi lived there from the 12th century until the beginning of the 13th century. Thus, the site’s appearance reflects not only its park design but also its early settlement history. Another historical connection is represented by the collection of the Gorki Leninskiye State Historical Museum-Reserve: it includes the world’s only Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost with half-track drive. The vehicle was acquired in England for V. I. Lenin in the autumn of 1922 and used by him in the final years of his life.

Historic Paths and Park Architecture

A system of cross-shaped avenues was laid out in the formal park, defining walking and horseback routes. Two rotunda pavilions in the 18th-century style were built on the heights of the landscape park. A grotto was created above the spring that feeds the Round Pond. These features add to the story of the manor park’s design.
