Klin brings together literary landmarks, buildings from several centuries and the riverside setting of the Sestra. This means visitors can choose from a range of themes for their stay, from museums and local history to parks, riverside walks and outdoor activities. When choosing a holiday apartment in Klin, you can consider which of these themes you would like to focus on in your daily plans.

Museums between literature and music

At the A. P. Gaidar House Museum, literary history meets personal memories. A. P. Gaidar rented a room in the house from 1938 to 1941 and called it “the tiny house with three little windows.” The museum comprises two rooms: a memorial room and a literary room. Its collection includes personal mementos, photographs and editions of works Gaidar wrote in Klin that were published during his lifetime.

The house museum’s program includes events about the writer’s life and works, as well as museum games and themed workshops. The program may change. The “Klinsky Compound” Museum offers another hands-on activity: children and adults can paint glass Christmas-tree ornaments of their choice under a master’s guidance and take them home. Workshop details and booking conditions may change.

The P. I. Tchaikovsky Museum-Reserve is considered one of Klin’s main attractions and a source of pride for the city. Its program includes guided tours, lectures, game-based programs and workshops. An overview tour takes in the composer’s house, with its interior fully preserved from the 19th century, the memorial park, and permanent exhibitions and displays from the museum’s collections. Check with the museum to see whether and when the tour is offered. The “Spring in Klin” festival is dedicated to P. I. Tchaikovsky’s birthday; check the specific event dates before your trip.

Architecture and local history

Klin’s buildings offer a glimpse into different chapters of the city’s history. The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God is the oldest surviving architectural monument in the city and dates back to the 16th century. In central Klin are the stone Trading Rows, a federally designated urban-planning monument.

Klin’s central cathedral complex developed over the course of the 17th and 19th centuries. It includes a bell tower, the Trinity Cathedral, an inn and the Church of the Resurrection. The latter is the oldest building in the complex, dating from 1712. The Klin Municipal District’s Museum and Tourism Center comprises the Klinsky Local History Museum, the A. P. Gaidar House Museum and the Y. V. Karapayev Exhibition Hall. The Klinsky Local History Museum opened as a public museum in February 1963.

The Sestra embankment and outdoor trails

Sestroretsky Park, on the left bank of the Sestra, has a riverside promenade with boat and pedal-boat rentals. The park offers panoramic views of the right bank. Open-air concerts of classical and contemporary music are held regularly in the amphitheater, which has a stage on the water; the concert program varies. Rental availability may also change.

To explore Klin by bike, you can take the 11-kilometer “Klin Sounds” route. It starts at a train station, passes through the historic part of Klin and continues through parks with riverside promenades to the P. I. Tchaikovsky Museum. Check local conditions before setting out. The cycle route combines views of the historic city center with stretches through parks; together with the museums and buildings, it offers a range of themes around which to plan your days.
