Dubensky District brings together archaeological traces, wildlife watching and cultural attractions. Trip planning can therefore take different interests into account: the site near Sainino, nature highlights around bodies of water and in named ecosystems, as well as a museum and horse-riding activities in individual localities. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide whether history, nature or active experiences should shape your stay; you can then choose specific destinations accordingly.

Archaeological traces from two periods

The Osh Pando archaeological site is located near the village of Sainino. Traces of people belonging to the Balanovo (Fatyanovo) culture were found there; the site dates from the 3rd–2nd centuries BC. The upper archaeological layers, by contrast, date from the 4th–8th centuries AD. Thus, traces from the Bronze Age and much later layers lie side by side at this site—a broad span of time for anyone interested in the region’s history.

Wildlife and named ecosystems

Nesting sites of grey herons and grey cranes have been identified near bodies of water in Dubensky District; there is also a large colony of bobak marmots. The wildlife highlights thus differ considerably: nesting sites near bodies of water contrast with a large mammal colony. The ecosystems named in the district include the «Svetloye» bog, the «Od moda» and «Chernaya bereza» meadows, and Lake «Rauzho». Some of the district’s unique ecosystems are designated as protected areas.

Museum, horse-riding routes and visitor attractions

The Dubensky Local History Museum in Dubenki has been in operation since 1988. Themed exhibitions cover history and ethnography, rural crafts and trades, public education, and wildlife. The main and research support collections together comprise around 10,000 exhibits. Check the current opening hours before visiting.

In Povodimovo, «Konny Ostrovok» offers rides for beginners and experienced riders; the horse-riding routes pass through fields and forests. If you are planning a ride, check the dates in advance. In Kabaevo, Izbushka Baba Yagi has two rooms for entertaining visitors. The museum, horse riding and this visitor attraction offer different options for planning your trip. When looking for a holiday rental, you can use the places and experiences that matter to you as a guide to your choice.
