The municipal plan for 2017 to 2035 places the “Tamengont” recreation base in the village. The village of Tamengont is near the A-120 federal highway. If you are looking for a vacation rental, you can first consider whether a village location in Tamengont suits your travel plans. The cottage at the recreation base then provides specific details about its area and floors.

A House at the Recreation Base

The two-story “Standart 4+2” cottage at the “Tamengont” recreation base has an area of 55 m² and is described as accommodation for families or groups of friends. Its two floors and area are specific features you can compare with your group’s space requirements. If you are interested, check availability for your preferred dates.

Early Reference and Historical Insight

The first known reference to a small Izhora settlement at the site of present-day Tamengont dates to 1704. An 1848 ethnographic map recorded 130 Ingrian Finns from the Evremeisen group and 14 Izhorians in the village. This brings two different historical perspectives together: an early written reference to the settlement and a later snapshot of the groups recorded in the village. The 1848 figures belong to their time and are not present-day population figures.

Regional Context in Leningrad Oblast

To explore the area in a broader context, you can also consider the landscape and cultural themes of the wider destination, Leningrad Oblast. The following examples are located elsewhere in the region and are not features of the village of Tamengont.

Vepsian Forest Nature Park

The Vepsian Forest Nature Park lies in the far east of Leningrad Oblast. It includes seven nature reserves with particularly strict conservation regulations. Numerous lakes characterize the park; the largest is Lake Lerinskoye, in the reserve of the same name. Among its special features are well-preserved old spruce and pine forests in the “Vepsskiy les” and “Ashchozyorskiy” reserves. They are important for numerous organisms that can survive only in forests undisturbed by economic activity. The Vepsians, a small people of Russia with their own culture and traditions, have traditionally lived in the nature park. Brown bears are also found in greater numbers in the Vepsian Forest Nature Park in Leningrad Oblast. In addition, the wolverine, which is extremely rare in the region, has been spotted there.

Koporye Fortress

Another regional cultural attraction in Leningrad Oblast is Koporye Fortress, a museum and monument of Old Russian stone architecture. Its present form has been preserved since the 16th century; parts of the masonry date from the 13th century. You can visit the fortress without a guide using the “Koporskaya Krepost 2.0” multimedia guide. Check whether this option is available before planning your visit. Climbing the walls and towers is prohibited because they are in an emergency condition.
