In Gatchinsky District, manor history, landscaped parks, and a protected natural monument come together. The places tell stories of Abram Gannibal and the Yeliseyev family, historic churches, and estates whose traces survive as buildings, ruins, or remnants of parks. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between the different attractions and visiting requirements: some require registration or prior contact, while visiting the natural monument is subject to a fee.

Estates and guided tours: different visiting requirements

Abram Petrovich Gannibal, A. S. Pushkin’s great-grandfather, bought the Suyda estate in 1759. There he laid out a formal garden, a landscape park, and an artificial water system. After his retirement, he planned and built new manor houses in 1762. The surviving features include a stable building, the ruins of an orangery, and Gannibal’s stone sofa. Advance booking is required for tours of the museum and estate.

At the Rozhdestveno estate, distinguish between the museum building and the park: the museum-estate building is being restored and cannot be visited during this time. A 60-minute introductory tour of the park is offered by advance booking only. There is also a 90-minute themed tour entitled “Nabokov’s Estates in St. Petersburg Governorate.” Confirm availability and fees before your trip.

Visiting the Sivoritsy estate also requires prior arrangements. The museum and other halls in the administrative building can be visited after contacting the hospital administration; a tour lasting around two hours can be booked. Confirm the current arrangements before your visit. A park was also laid out around the Sivoritsy estate.

Churches, architecture, and park remains

In Druzhnoselye, the Church of Saint Stefania was built next to Stefania’s burial place, based on a design by painter and architect Alexander Bryullov. The church is in a neglected condition. Window grilles and a new door lock suggest efforts to restore it or protect it from further deterioration; its condition may change, so check before visiting. An English landscape park with winding paths was laid out around the church. They lead to a burial place by an artificial pond with a pavilion. Traces of the park’s layout are still visible beneath the grass. The landscape park of the Druzhnoselye estate was laid out with a labyrinth of paths and avenues, as well as a system of canals and ponds.

The Yeliseyev family manor house in Belogorka was built as a palace in the Northern Modern style, replacing the old house. Engineers Vladimir Petrovich Tavlinov and Stepan Fyodorovich Ovsyannikov are credited with its design; Ovsyannikov was a nephew of A. G. Yeliseyev. The estate is closed and unsafe to explore independently. The so-called Humpback Bridge and the “Gothic Gates” are located on the grounds of the Demidov estate in Taytsy. In Zhabino, the ruins of the manor house and outbuildings, remnants of the old park, and ponds have survived. The sites reveal different traces of former estates, from named structures to ruins and surviving park features.

Natural monument and focus of your trip

The natural monument “Devonian Outcrops on the Oredezh near Belogorka” offers a different perspective. Visiting it is subject to a fee, as are the eco-routes there. The natural monument includes parts of the villages of Belogorka and Novosiverskaya, as well as the urban-type settlement of Siversky.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Gatchinsky District, first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: manor history and parks, historic architecture, or the natural monument and its eco-routes. Take note of the registration and contact requirements mentioned for each site; for tours in Rozhdestveno, also confirm availability and fees.
