The Stepanov Family Museum tells the story of Epistinia Fyodorovna Stepanova, whose nine sons died in the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War. At the same time, an exhibition on the culture of the Kuban Cossacks, a central memorial square and the history of the town extend far beyond the biography of a single family. Those interested in history can explore different perspectives here: family, town and region.

Family History and Exhibitions

At the Stepanov Family Museum, three permanent exhibitions offer different perspectives on these subjects. “History and Culture of the Kuban” covers the history of the Kuban Cossacks. “Heroes of the Timashevsk District” focuses on Timashevsk residents who took part in the Great Patriotic War. “The Greatness and Suffering of the Stepanov Family” tells the story of the military bravery of the Stepanov brothers. The exhibitions thus lead from regional culture to the Timashevsk residents who took part in the war, and back to the family’s history.

The central exhibition presents episodes from the Great Patriotic War in a continuous 360-degree projection. At the same time, a list of fallen heroes is projected to the sound of bells. The images, names and sound create a distinct focus within the historical theme. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus primarily on family history, local wartime history or the broader regional culture.

The Memorial Square in the Centre

In the centre of Timashevsk, the memorial square contains two mass graves for those killed in the Civil War of 1918–1920 and the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. The complex includes the “Two Warriors” monument, an Eternal Flame and the “Wall of Remembrance.” A nearby metal relief composition depicts the contribution of workers on the home front. These elements represent different forms of remembrance: graves and a monument, a flame that burns continuously, and a portrayal of work at home. Together, they give the historical theme a place at the heart of the town.

Local History and a Dated Church Event

The history of the place where Timashevsk stands today began in 1794, when former Zaporozhian Cossacks came to the Kuban frontier and formed the community of the Timashevsk kuren. Another clear date is the consecration of the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos on 6 April 2002, led by Archpriest Alexander Shchabunin. The year 1794 marks the beginning of local history; the 2002 date records a religious event from more recent times. This allows you to distinguish between the early history of the town and a later chapter in its religious life when planning your trip.

Nature in Krasnodar Krai

A different theme awaits you in Krasnodar Krai at the “Azov Spits” nature park. There, sea waves and currents shape spits and islands of varied outlines from sand and shells. Shallow coastal waters, the ends of the spits and sandy islands are home year-round to colonies of various gull, tern and cormorant species; their presence varies by season. The coastal landscapes and birdlife complement Timashevsk’s historical themes with a nature perspective on the wider region, though this is a different kind of travel destination.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Timashevsk, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on during your trip: if the museum, memorial square and local history are your priorities, look for accommodation for your stay in town. If you also plan to explore regional nature, include those destinations separately in your itinerary. This lets you choose accommodation to suit your actual plans, rather than treating different regional attractions as a single local offering.
