Pavlovsky District: Discover Natural Monuments and Museum History
Accommodation in Pavlovsky District
In Pavlovsky District, natural monuments with distinctive plant life and museum exhibits about the history of Pavlovskaya can be considered as two separate travel interests. One focuses on landforms, steppe, and vegetation; the other on historical exhibitions and guided tours. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, this distinction can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.
Natural Monuments: Hills, Steppe, and Plant Life
“Krugly Kurgan” is a hilly rise measuring 14 meters high and 100 meters in diameter. These dimensions give an idea of its shape: relative to its width, the hill is broad and fairly low. Its plant life also makes this natural monument noteworthy. Rare steppe plants grow there, including sandy everlasting (Helichrysum arenarium). This species is listed in both the Red Book of the Russian Federation and the Red Book of Krasnodar Region. An unpaved road leads to the natural monument. Include the access road in your plans and check road conditions before setting out.
The natural monument “Krutaya Balka” is hilly terrain with mixed herb and grass vegetation. As a meadow island, it also has plant species listed in the Red Books. The natural monuments also differ botanically: rare steppe plants and sandy everlasting are the main features of “Krugly Kurgan,” while “Krutaya Balka” is distinguished by its meadow island and varied vegetation.
Museum and Local History of Pavlovskaya
The Pavlovsk Historical and Local History Museum is housed in an early 20th-century merchant’s house built in the Neoclassical style. The museum tour “Kupecheskiy oblik stanitsy” follows Lenin Street, a central street in the stanitsa of Pavlovskaya. It was formerly called Krasnaya, meaning “beautiful.”
The exhibition “Kubanskiy kray – zemlya Rodnaya” covers the resettlement of the Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Kuban region under a decree issued by Catherine II. It also explores their way of life, tools, and household items. Alongside this history of resettlement and everyday life, the museum excursion “Dorogami slavy” offers another historical focus: it covers the “Stepnoy” partisan unit and a 110-strong destruction battalion. The battalion was formed in the stanitsa of Pavlovskaya in 1941, guarded the stanitsa, and later fought in the Caucasus.
Other exhibitions bring together natural and cultural themes. “Priroda i zhivotnyy mir Pavlovskogo rayona” presents the wildlife of Pavlovsky District and Krasnodar Region, as well as the diversity of local fauna. The exhibition “Drevniye pamyatniki arkheologii” displays tools, weapons, dishes, and jewelry as products of human labor. The museum’s subject matter thus ranges from regional wildlife to archaeological objects.
