Krasnodar combines urban parkland with stories from the time of Yekaterinodar, walks through the historic centre and distinctive Kuban cuisine. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment, you can use your travel interests as a starting point: should your stay focus mainly on parks and city history, or would you also like to include culinary experiences and regional themes?

Parks and Historical Traces in Krasnodar

In the north-east of the city lies the park of FC Krasnodar, an urban park complex next to the FC Krasnodar stadium. Shaded paths and curved, spiral-shaped walkways connect several areas of the park. More than 2,500 tree species have been planted there, including rare and exotic plants. The layout of the paths and varied planting give the park its own distinctive character among Krasnodar’s city experiences.

The park now known as Gorodskoy Sad dates back to the former Voiskovoy Garden. It was established as a nursery on 8 October 1848 to supply the Cossacks of the Black Sea Cossack Host with various fruit trees. This makes it possible to trace a specific part of the city’s history at this site: its original purpose was connected with supplying the Cossacks. Gorodskoy Sad also received the “Golden Pony”, the park industry’s highest award.

Another historic date is associated with the monument to Catherine II: it was ceremonially unveiled in Yekaterininsky Square on 8 September 2006. The “Hall of Military Glory” museum complex preserves the memory of the courage and selflessness of the defenders of the homeland. Its halls present the history of the Great Patriotic War and other important periods in the country’s history. Together, these themes offer different ways to explore Krasnodar’s past—from the history of the city and the Cossacks to commemorating the country’s defenders.

Walking Tours Through Architecture and Cossack History

The “Po doroge v muzey” walking tour takes you through the historic centre. It introduces notable figures from Yekaterinodar–Krasnodar and covers mansions dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The focus is therefore on both local figures and the architecture of the period. If you’re planning to take this tour, it’s best to confirm its current availability in advance.

The “Yekaterinodar – Cossack City” walking tour offers a different historical perspective. It also goes through the historic centre, but focuses on the Cossacks, to whom Catherine II granted land in the Kuban region for their military service, and on the founding of Yekaterinodar. The period covered runs from the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. When planning, you can choose between a tour focused on notable figures and mansions and a broader look at the founding and history of the Cossack city.

Kuban Cuisine and Regional Experiences

The “Neskuchnaya kukhnya” excursion combines a bus ride and a walk with visits to three restaurants serving national cuisine and to sights in Krasnodar’s historic centre. It begins in the courtyard of “Stan”, a Cossack cuisine restaurant at 15 Kubanskaya Naberezhnaya. The excursion opens with a presentation and a tasting of Kuban snacks. It’s best to confirm current availability before planning this excursion.

The wider Krasnodar region also offers nature and wine experiences that differ from those in the city. At Anapskaya Peresyp Nature Park, visitors can walk along wide, golden beaches on the coast; farther from the sea, the sand forms high dunes. Azovskie Kosy Nature Park is home year-round to colonies of various gull, tern and cormorant species on shallows near the coast, at the ends of spits and on sandy islands. The birds’ presence varies seasonally.

The “Vinnye dorogi Krasnodarskogo kraya” route presents more than 2,500 years of viticulture and winemaking in the Krasnodar region—from antiquity to the present day. Interactive exhibitions and installations are also part of what it offers. If you’d like to include the route in your plans, check its current status beforehand.

When looking for a holiday apartment, the mix of experiences you want is therefore a useful starting point: Krasnodar’s parks, historic tours and Kuban cuisine offer different highlights from the nature and wine experiences found across the wider Krasnodar region.
