Kalininsky District combines a water-rich landscape with distinctive memorial sites. Rivers, rice fields and pink lotus plantations stand alongside a rare wooden church, a MiG-15 monument and museums devoted to local history. You can therefore plan your trip around the landscape and waterways, architecture and historical themes—or combine them.

Waterways, Rice Fields and Lotus

The Ponura and Protoka rivers flow through Kalininsky District. Large areas are occupied by limans, artificial canals and rice fields. Water is therefore found in several forms: in the rivers, limans and canals, and in a landscape shaped by rice cultivation. Those interested in the surroundings will find a different perspective here than they would from individual attractions alone.

The district describes its pink lotus plantations as a distinctive feature of the landscape. Visitors come to admire them. If you would like to include them in your travel plans, check in advance where and when a visit would suit you. This allows you to plan the lotus plantations as a nature highlight in their own right, without associating them with a particular excursion destination or a fixed visiting season.

Fishing is also part of the character of Kalininsky District: local residents and people from across the region come here to fish. The district’s waterways are also associated with hunting. These activities add a practical use of the waterways to the landscape themes; they sit alongside an interest in the rivers, limans and canals.

Church, Monument and Local History

The Church of the Epiphany stands in Kalininskaya. This wooden church was built on a brick foundation in 1855 to replace a dilapidated church, and has been protected by the state as an architectural monument since 1981. It is considered one of the few surviving examples of wooden architecture and a rare example in the western areas of the Kuban from the late 19th century. Its construction, date of origin and protected status give the site several historical points of interest.

A different perspective on history awaits you at the MiG-15 aircraft monument. It stands at the intersection of the Kalininskaya–Krasnodar and Timashevsk–Slavyansk-na-Kubani roads and commemorates military glory. It honors the 9th Guards Fighter Aviation Division, which took part in the liberation of the Kuban from the Nazi occupiers. Different historical themes therefore coexist in the district: sacred wooden architecture and the remembrance of military events.

The Folk Museum of the History of Stanitsa Starovelichkovskaya presents, among other things, the history of the Kuban Cossacks and the founding of the stanitsa. This offers another focus for planning your interests: alongside architecture and military remembrance, you can explore Cossack history and the origins of a settlement. Those travelling with children and looking to discuss history through specific topics will find a range of points of connection here.

A Natural Setting in Krasnodar Krai

Krasnodar Krai also offers other natural attractions, including those in the Azov Spits Nature Park. Throughout the year, colonies of various gull, tern and cormorant species can be found on coastal shallows, at the ends of spits and on sandy islands; the species present may vary by season. Sea waves and currents shape spits and islands with varied outlines from sand and shells. This coastal landscape offers a distinct natural setting within the region, alongside the rivers, limans, canals and rice fields of Kalininsky District.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Travel Interests

If you enjoy both, you can include both themes in your travel plans. This lets you choose your accommodation to suit your interests rather than limiting your entire stay to just one of the district’s many highlights.
