Guamka: Gorge, River and Excursion Train
Accommodation in Guamka
The Kurdzhips Gorge defines Guamka, with steep rock walls, rapids and small waterfalls. The Guam Gorge Natural Monument lies in the northern part of the Lagonaki Highlands. Between the Lagonaksky and Guama mountain ridges, the river carved out the gorge, with rock walls rising on both sides of the Kurdzhips. The gorge stretches along the river from Guamka to Mezmay. Here, the river, rock and mountain setting are closely intertwined.
Gorge dimensions at a glance
The natural monument is 3 km long and about 400 m deep. In its lower reaches, the gorge is 15 to 30 m wide; in its upper reaches, it is 100 to 200 m wide. Its walls are steep and, in places, vertical.
River, rock walls and orientation
The Kurdzhips rushes through rapids and small waterfalls in the Guam Gorge. Their height amplitude there is 95 m. Together with the steep rock walls, the fast-flowing water defines the character of the natural monument: it has both a pronounced vertical dimension and a river course with rapids and waterfalls. Those with a particular interest in river landscapes will find a clear focus here for planning their trip.
Facilities also help visitors find their way around: the gorge has railings and waste bins. At particularly dangerous spots on steep slopes, metal nets hold back mudflows and falling rocks. The nets therefore have a clearly defined protective function; railings and waste bins complement the visitor facilities already in place.
Excursion train and nearby caves
Another way to give your stay a particular focus is to take the excursion train “Poezd na relsakh.” It runs through the Guam Gorge from “Guamka” station to “Urochishche Monakhovo” station. So, alongside the landscape of river and rock, a train ride is another distinct excursion option. If you would like to include the ride in your plans, check what is available for your travel dates.
Caves and grottoes are also part of the natural landscape nearby: about ten are known in the Guam Gorge area.
Guamka and other landscapes in Krasnodar Krai
For broader holiday planning, it may be helpful to compare Guamka with other types of landscape in Krasnodar Krai. In Anapa Spit Nature Park, visitors can walk along wide, golden beaches on the coast; farther from the sea, the sand forms a series of high dunes. This is a different focus from the river and rock landscape of the natural monument near Guamka. You can therefore start by choosing the kind of natural experience you want: the gorge and the Kurdzhips on one hand, or coastal beaches and dunes on the other.
If the gorge is the main focus of your trip, a holiday apartment in Guamka may be a natural search term. The natural formations, train ride and caves in the gorge area offer different points of interest.
