A gorge, rock formations and a central park give Goryachy Klyuch very different facets. Dantovo Gorge and the rocky landscapes tell the story of striking natural formations; in Kurortny Park, shady avenues shape the scenery. There are also hiking trails with very different time and weather requirements. When looking for a holiday apartment, it may therefore help to start by deciding whether you want to focus your stay mainly on natural landmarks, the town centre or longer hikes.

Gorges and Rock Views

Dantovo Gorge is a natural landmark in Tselebnuy Park on the southern edge of Goryachy Klyuch, at the foot of Mount Abadzekh. A stone staircase was carved into the bottom of the gorge in the 1870s. This historical detail sets the site apart from rock destinations whose distinctive features lie mainly in their formations and views.

Skala Spaseniya, also called Petushok, is about 28 metres high. From here, there are views of the Psekups Valley and the wooded foothills of the Pshaf Ridge. The steep Lestnitsa zhizni, or Staircase of Life, carved into the rock, lies between the small Zvonka and Spaseniya caves. Here, a viewpoint and striking rock formations are joined by another historic staircase. The stone staircase in Dantovo Gorge and the staircase between the caves are two different structures in separate locations.

Another natural landmark is Skala Zerkalo: a 32-metre-high cliff of yellow quartz-glauconite sandstone in the valley of the Maltsev Stream, a first-order tributary of the Psekups. The approximate height of Skala Spaseniya and the stated height of Skala Zerkalo provide a concrete comparison between two rock destinations; their described features also differ, with one known for its views and the other for its rock type.

Hikes with Different Conditions

A one-day walking route in the forest zone of Goryachy Klyuch is 11.8 kilometres long. Its stops include Rodnikovaya Polyana, the Iverskaya Chapel, Dantovo Gorge, 415-metre-high Mount Klyuchevaya, the viewpoint at Urishche Volchi Vorota, Maltsev Waterfall, Skala Zerkalo and the Zhelezistiy Spring. This route connects several different landscape and nature destinations on a day hike.

Additional conditions apply to the hiking trail along the Kotkh Ridge: participants must be at least 12 years old, and groups are limited to a maximum of 15 people. The trail is open year-round; however, from November to April, it should be attempted only in good, clear weather. Check these requirements again before planning. The Iverskaya Chapel is also among the named stops on this route.

The Bolshaya Kubanskaya Tropa long-distance hiking route leads all the way into the city. The described access to Goryachy Klyuch includes a pedestrian bridge over the Psekups. This means that a day hike with numerous named stops, a route with age, group-size and weather requirements, and a long-distance trail leading into town are three different options.

Town Centre, Remembrance and Trip Planning

Kurortny Park, centrally located, has shady avenues with century-old pines, benches and fountains. A monument in the city centre commemorates the city's defenders in the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War. For those interested in history when planning a trip, this offers a distinct focus in the townscape alongside the gorges and hiking trails.

Nearby, close to the hamlet of Podnavisla, a monument was opened in 2000 to soldiers who fell during the Second World War while defending the area around Goryachy Klyuch. It is outside the city centre and adds a site in the surrounding area to the historical picture. When choosing a holiday apartment in Goryachy Klyuch, these differences can help guide your excursion plans: decide whether the town centre with its park and monument, the natural landmarks or a longer hike is most important to your stay.
