In Chegdomyn, a local history museum and a seasonal walking route offer different perspectives on the town’s history. One point of interest is a historic date; the other connects several memorial sites in the town’s streets.

Local History Museum and District History

Chegdomyn’s local history museum opened on September 10, 1977, on the 50th anniversary of the district’s founding. The museum’s opening is therefore directly linked to this district anniversary—a specific historical point of reference for anyone interested in the history of the town and its district.

A Seasonal Route Through the Streets

The “Pamyatniki poselka Chegdomyn” walking route leads through the streets of Chegdomyn. It is intended for students in grades 1 to 11; school classes, families, clubs, and small groups can walk it together. The route is designated for spring and summer. Plan your visit in line with this seasonal schedule and check the latest visitor information in advance.

Stops include a memorial stone to railway workers and builders of the Baikal–Amur Mainline (BAM), as well as the “Poslednyaya ataka” memorial on Glory Square. The memorial is therefore more than just a name on a route: it is a specific stop on a named square in Chegdomyn. Together, the stops give the route a clear focus on remembrance and local history.

If you would like to make these memorial sites and the local history museum the focus of your stay, you can search for a holiday apartment in Chegdomyn. This way, choosing a destination starts with the question of whether you mainly want to explore the town itself or extend your trip planning to include other natural and route-based options in Khabarovsk Krai.

Khabarovsk Krai: Nature and Different Routes

As a broader setting, Khabarovsk Krai offers a range of landscapes and types of excursions. Anyuysky National Park was established on December 15, 2007, and covers 429,400 hectares on the western slope of the central Sikhote-Alin. It lies in the Anyui basin, a major right-bank tributary of the Amur, and is particularly appealing to people interested in active educational tourism. Bureinsky Nature Reserve, in turn, covers almost 357,000 hectares and protects a representative section of mountain taiga; it was established in 1987.

Coastal and island landscapes are the focus of Shantar Islands National Park: it protects coastal ecosystems, rock formations, and island vegetation, as well as marine mammal habitats and bird nesting grounds. Tourist routes run through the park and its waters. One of them, the “Po akvatorii Shantarskikh ostrovov” water route, is 223 kilometers long, takes 8 hours and 30 minutes, and is listed for July to September. Before traveling, check the latest park rules, permit requirements, and operating arrangements.

Hiking Trails with Clear Visitor Requirements

The hiking trails in the region also vary in length, time required, and access. The “Zapovednyy Khekhtsir” educational nature trail in the “Bolshekhekhtsirskiy” Nature Reserve is 2.55 kilometers long and takes about two and a half hours. It passes through natural communities of the Ussuri taiga and offers an impression of its characteristic vegetation and the forest landscapes of Greater Khekhtsir. The trail is listed as open year-round, but may only be visited by organized groups accompanied by an employee of “Zapovednoye Priamurye” and a state environmental protection inspector.

The “Rodnichok” educational nature trail is considerably shorter, at 600 meters; about an hour is set aside for it. It passes through coniferous and broadleaf mixed forest to Bykova Creek and is listed for May to October. Here, too, visits are possible only for organized groups accompanied by an employee of “Zapovednoye Priamurye” and a state environmental protection inspector. The two trails therefore offer different time frames but share a mandatory group and escort requirement.

Published distance and duration details also vary for water-route travelers: the “K serdtsu zapovednika” route in “Komsomolskiy” Nature Reserve is 46 kilometers long, takes an estimated 12 hours, and is listed for May to October. Ask the nature reserve about current access and booking arrangements. The route in Shantar Islands National Park offers a different distance and time frame, at 223 kilometers and 8 hours and 30 minutes; current conditions should also be checked in advance there.
