Belye Berega brings together a large artificial body of water, park and garden areas, and traces of a settlement whose history began with the railway. This means trips to the water sit alongside cultural and historical themes. When choosing a holiday rental, let your idea of a holiday set the focus: is it mainly about the water and walks, green spaces or local history?

The reservoir and park as distinct focal points

The Beloberezhskoye Reservoir is an artificial lake of about 180 hectares. It was formed by a dam on the Snezhet River and is considered the largest artificial lake in Bryansk Oblast. The water is ideal for a walk or a picnic. Molodyozhny Beach is right behind the White Bridge, on the shore of the reservoir. The water and its banks thus offer a distinct focus alongside the area's green spaces.

M. I. Todadze Park of Culture and Recreation lies on the banks of a canal. It is named after Mikhail Todadze, who chaired the settlement council in the post-war period. In 2021, a workout area and table tennis tables were installed in the park. Following renovations in 2019, the garden by the square near the local cultural centre included interactive areas, an open-air library and a small art gallery. The lakeshore, park and garden therefore offer different attractions: the waterside landscape sits alongside exercise and smaller cultural discoveries.

Walking route and traces of local history

A circular route leads from the church through the park and over the bridge to the water; the return takes you to the spring and railway station. If you plan to follow this route, check the current conditions at the stops in advance. The sequence of church, park, water, spring and station gives the walk a sense of place, rather than focusing on just one viewpoint.

The origins of Belye Berega are also linked to the railway. In 1868, trains began running on the Orel–Riga line. A settlement gradually grew up around the small station named Belye Berega. Another local story leads to Privokzalnaya Street: in 2016, a spring was discovered there, at the site of an old water tower. Residents transformed the site with a wooden dome, a log structure and a natural garden.

At a celebration in 2018, installations featuring important dates in local history were set up along the pedestrian area of Lenin Street in the centre. Together with the railway history and the spring, they offer further perspectives on the area. When planning your trip, you can weigh nature, outdoor activities and historical themes according to your interests.

More places to explore in Bryansk Oblast

Bryansk Oblast also offers distinctive natural and cultural highlights. Bryansky Les Nature Reserve lies between the Desna and Nerussa rivers and is the region's only nature reserve. Visitors can experience its wilderness through environmental education, routes and wildlife observation. The area is also one of the centres for breeding and reintroducing bison, which were historically native to this region.

In Dyatkovo, the Dyatkovo Crystal Museum showcases more than two hundred years of glassmaking history. Exhibits include coloured and colourless crystal pieces made using rare techniques, artistic compositions by Soviet glassmakers, and vases and decorative furnishings from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are also gifts and keepsakes made for well-known figures, as well as ornate light fixtures and decorative glass ensembles. Ovstug was the family estate of the Tyutchevs and the birthplace of Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev; the Khatsun memorial complex commemorates the victims of the Nazi occupation regime in Bryansk Oblast and the Russian villages destroyed during the Great Patriotic War.
