Prokhorovka offers several ways to explore history: museums focus on the Battle of Kursk, the development of armored technology and the relocation of enterprises inland. Memorial sites offer their own perspectives, while the tankodrome puts vehicles and events centre stage. When planning your trip, you can first consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay—and then look for a holiday apartment in Prokhorovka.

Museums with Different Perspectives

At the «Tretje ratnoje pole Rossii» Museum, the exhibition covers both the history of the Prokhorovka District and the course of the Battle of Kursk. Models of various types of military equipment and items belonging to participants in the fighting are also on display. This brings a broader historical context and specific objects together, without requiring the objects to be attributed to a particular battle.

For activities with children, the museum has a technologically equipped learning room with 24 seats. Quizzes and team games are held there. For trips with children, this room, specifically intended for shared educational activities, offers a concrete activity alongside the exhibitions.

The «Bitva za oruzhiye Velikoy Pobedy» Museum focuses on the large-scale evacuation of enterprises and people from the frontline area to the interior of the country. Visitors can enter a railway carriage that recreates a journey deep into the hinterland and listen to the stories of fellow passengers. This gives the subject not only a historical but also a narrative dimension: the carriage makes the journey depicted part of the exhibition.

The Museum of Armored Technology covers the history of tank construction from antiquity to the present day. At the «Schtab Rotmistrowa» complex, original furniture from the house that served as the army commander's headquarters is on display, along with personal belongings of P. A. Rotmistrow. The two subjects have different focuses: the long history of tank construction on the one hand, and furniture and personal objects from the setting of a headquarters on the other.

Memorial Sites and the Prokhorovka Field

Inside the dome of the bell tower on the Prokhorovka Field hangs a 3.5-ton assault bell. It rings three times an hour in memory of Kulikovo, Borodino and Prokhorovka. The chimes thus commemorate three different historic sites and form a striking memorial on the field.

Victory Park in Prokhorovka is a themed park on the Prokhorovka Field. Its monuments and sculptures include «Prival», «W ataku!» and «Polkovodtsy». Depictions include Soviet soldiers and women in wartime; other park motifs are Pavel Shpetny and Mikhail Borisov. The varied titles and motifs give the park a distinctive character among Prokhorovka's memorial sites.

Vehicles, Exhibitions and Events

The Prokhorovka Tankodrome covers 1.2 hectares. Its exhibition grounds display 15 armored vehicle exhibits and eight artillery exhibits. They were brought there from various Russian regions, from Rostov Oblast to Novosibirsk, with the support and involvement of the Ministry of Defence. As a result, the geographical scope of the exhibits extends beyond Prokhorovka.

The tankodrome also has armored vehicles described as operational: the BTR-70 armored personnel carrier, the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle, the BRDM-2 armored reconnaissance and patrol vehicle, the BMD-2 airborne combat vehicle and the BA-64 armored car. Spectator stands offer more than 1,300 seats. The grounds feature both exhibits and stands for spectators.

Mass events are held annually at the tankodrome, including the all-Russian soldiers' song festival «Pole Slawy» and ceremonial parades of armored vehicles. If one of these events is important to your trip, check the dates in advance. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can decide whether you would primarily like to include exhibitions, memorial sites or events in your travel plans.

The museum-reserve facilities provide free wheelchair use for people with limited mobility. Check with the museum before your trip to arrange availability.
