Cula Culture in Măldăreşti

Cula Duca is a fortified residence of the Culă type and part of the Măldăreşti Museum Complex, where it is used as a museum. Gheorghiță Măldărescu built it in 1812; the stucco work was completed in 1827. The building has three levels. Each level contains loopholes. The balustrade of the pavilion also has loopholes. Thus, the defensive architectural features are located on the levels and on the pavilion. The Cula complex in Măldăreşti gives visitors an insight into the historic life of the boyars.

Cula Greceanu is an 18th-century historic building in the Măldăreşti Museum Complex. Its present form was renovated between 1780 and 1790 by the boyar Gheorghe Măldărescu and his wife Eva. From the veranda of the upper Cerdac, there are views of the Arnota, Builă and Bărbătescu mountains, as well as of the Luncavăț Valley.

Museum Collection and Painting Course

The Măldăreşti Museum Complex preserves more than 3,000 ethnographic objects. A painting course is also held there, attended by painters from all over the country. The painting course brings an artistic activity to the same museum complex in which the ethnographic collection is preserved.

Church and Trovanți in the Commune

In the centre of the commune of Măldăreşti, on the right bank of the Luncavăț River, stands the masonry church dedicated to Saint Nicholas. Because of its age, its Brâncovenesc-influenced architecture and the quality of its wall paintings, it is designated as a historic monument. The Luncavăț River is present at the church site and likewise in the valley view from Cula Greceanu.

Trovanți are designated as a local attraction along the Neagra and Gresarea streams in Măldăreşti. The landscape features in Măldăreşti thus include the views from Cula Greceanu as well as the Trovanți along the Neagra and Gresarea.

Location of the Museum Complex

The Măldăreşti Museum Complex can be reached via the DN 65 and is located about 3 km from Horezu. Horezu is therefore near the museum complex, while the DN 65 provides the road connection for the journey.
