Archaeology

The Bronze Age settlement area “Situl arheologic de epoca bronzului de la Urseni - Sit 5” is recorded in Urseni. This area contains red- and grey-coloured pottery sherds made on a potter’s wheel, dating from the post-Roman 4th century. In the Bronze Age settlement area of “Situl arheologic de epoca bronzului de la Urseni - Sit 5” there is a large round pit, possibly a pit house, as well as pottery sherds. The finds thus combine characteristic pottery features with a structural finding whose possible function is expressly left open.

Another archaeological settlement area, “Situl arheologic de la Urseni - Urseni SE/ Faleza Timişului”, is recorded in Urseni. It is located on the slope of the right bank of the Timiș River. Southeast and south of Urseni, the Timiș forms the eastern, southeastern and southern boundary of the commune’s territory. Archaeology and the river landscape are therefore linked by a clearly defined spatial context in Urseni.

Churches and Customs

The churches also tell of different periods. In 1777, a simple, ship-shaped wooden church was built in Urseni and dedicated to Saint Great Martyr George. The Orthodox Church of “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” in Urseni dates from 1937. The new church in Urseni was consecrated on 29 August 1938 under the patronage of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The documented ecclesiastical references thus range from an 18th-century wooden church to two churches from 1937 and 1938, without conflating their different names or dedications.

The Banat Ruga adds a festive date: in Urseni, it is celebrated on 15 August for the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The patronage of the new church and the occasion of the Ruga therefore refer to the same religious theme, while the celebration stands out as a distinct local custom in the annual calendar. For a custom held on a fixed date, it may be useful for planning the day to check the current times of the festivities before travelling.

Cycling Routes

Urseni is also included in two named cycling routes. A cycling route from the water treatment station on Calea Urseni to the Bazoșu Nou dendrological park passes through Rudicica, Urseni, Moșnița Nouă, Moșnița Veche and Bucovăț. The route thus connects several place names with a starting point on Calea Urseni and a clearly designated destination in the dendrological park.

On the Timișoara–Pădurea Bistra–Urseni–Timișoara route, the return journey passes through Ghiroda, Moșnița Veche, Moșnița Nouă and Urseni. Before setting out on a cycling tour, it is advisable to check the current route conditions and transport connections well in advance.

Connections

The paved communal connecting road DC 152 links Moşniţa Veche and Urseni with the commune centre of Moşniţa Nouă. The road is 5.3 km long.
