Discover Alma Vii

The ensemble of the fortified church of Alma Vii was awarded the European Heritage Award by Europa Nostra, as well as the Grand Prix and the Public Choice Award, in 2024. Alma Vii retains largely intact traditional architecture. Traditional large farmsteads in Alma Vii include colourful houses with family coats of arms or dates that are significant to the building history. Together with the church ensemble, these houses and farmsteads shape the villagescape and make the traditional construction methods of the village immediately perceptible.

Culture

The fortified church of Alma Vii was built in the 14th century. Four towers of the fortified church house exhibition rooms. They reinterpret former functions, the everyday life of the community and important events in its social life. A visit thus combines the historic church building with insights into the use of the towers and the history of the community. The exhibition rooms address not only architectural features, but also everyday life and the social events associated with the ensemble.

Landscape and trails

A walk through the village of Alma Vii is one possible visitor activity. Hiking in the hills surrounding Alma Vii is also possible. During a walk, visitors can experience the traditional architecture in connection with the large farmsteads and their colourful houses. The hills form the scenic setting for routes outside the village. The “Drumul fortificațiilor” in the Valea Târnavelor passes through Alma Vii. The village is therefore part of a route connecting the fortifications in the Valea Târnavelor, without Alma Vii having to be viewed merely as an individual church ensemble. From Alma Vii, visitors can discover the “Piramidele de la Alma Vii” as a hidden attraction. The meadows around Alma Vii are characterised by rich flora and fauna. The village, hills and meadows thus bring diverse landscape impressions close together.

Events

The Asociația Alma Vii organises the “Zilele Cetăţii Alma Vii” festival every summer together with Mihai Eminescu Trust. The festival is jointly organised by the two named organisations and regularly returns to Alma Vii during the summer season. Its title explicitly places the fortified site at the centre.

Food and drink

The cabbage pie from Moșna is a traditional recipe preserved by local residents. In the fortified church ensemble of Alma Vii, a local food outlet offers traditional dishes, freshly baked bread and a dessert with vanilla and fruit. Local cuisine therefore includes both the preserved recipe from Moșna and the offerings at the church ensemble of Alma Vii. The dishes mentioned combine traditional fare with freshly baked bread and a sweet finish made with vanilla and fruit.
