Discover Fersig: Nature, Church and Regional Museums
Nature
The village of Fersig is home to Pădurea Bavna. This 26-hectare forest nature reserve of national interest lies within the administrative area of the municipality of Satulung and belongs to IUCN Category IV. Pedunculate oaks more than 150 years old grow in Pădurea Bavna. In spring, the checkered lily (Fritillaria meleagris), which has been declared a natural monument, blooms there. This forest area therefore combines a clearly defined size with old trees and a distinctive spring bloom.
Landscape and Water
Fersig is part of an area of high terraces. This area is predominantly characterised by forests and natural pastures; fruit growing and crop cultivation are carried out to a lesser extent. The landscape therefore brings together wooded areas, open pastures and agriculturally used areas. The Valea Oanii is a watercourse in Fersig and part of the municipality of Satulung’s hydrographic network. The forest of Fersig is considered particularly rich in edible mushrooms. A colony of grey herons breeds in the forest of Fersig. The forests of Fersig are therefore both a habitat for the grey heron colony and characterised by their mushroom population.
Fersig’s integration into the municipality of Satulung is evident in both nature and transport: Pădurea Bavna lies within its administrative area, the Valea Oanii belongs to its hydrographic network, and the railway line crosses the municipality from northeast to southwest, with a station in Satulung and a stopping point in the village.
Church and History
The Biserica Ortodoxa Fersig was built between 1929 and 1933 from bricks on a concrete foundation. Historically, the Biserica din Fersig bears the patronage “Pogorârea Sfântului Duh”. By October 2018, numerous reconstruction and rehabilitation works had been carried out at the Biserica din Fersig; these had begun in 2008.
