Culture
Casa Breslelor is an exhibition about the guilds of Hunedoara. It is housed in a 17th-century building in the outer castle courtyard (Curtea Husarilor) of Corvin Castle. The exhibition on the prehistory and early history of Hunedoara is also located in the outer courtyard (Curtea Husarilor), in an administrative building dating from the 17th century.
The two exhibitions in the outer courtyard have different focuses: Casa Breslelor deals with the guilds of Hunedoara, while the second exhibition is dedicated to the prehistory and early history of the city. The buildings are also specified in more detail: Casa Breslelor occupies a 17th-century building, while the exhibition on the prehistory and early history is housed in an administrative building from the same period.
The castle chapel is located on the eastern side of Corvin Castle. It displays features of the local Gothic ecclesiastical architecture. The actual palace is situated on the western side of Corvin Castle. It includes the Knights’ Hall, the Diet Hall and a spiral staircase.
The layout of the complex therefore comprises the chapel on the eastern side, the palace on the western side and the outer courtyard with the two exhibitions. Within the palace, in addition to the Knights’ Hall and the Diet Hall, the spiral staircase is also mentioned as a separate component.
A document dated 5 July 1548 records the royal permission granted to the Serbs and Vlachs living in Hunedoara to build a new church in place of the older one. Admission to Corvin Castle also includes a visit to the exhibition on the prehistory and early history of Hunedoara in Curtea Husarilor. From 1 January 2021, the entire complex of Corvin Castle could be visited.
St. Nicholas Church is located near Corvin Castle in Hunedoara. The historian Nicolae Iorga dated the present building of St. Nicholas Church to the years 1634 to 1654.
The information about St. Nicholas Church links its location near the castle with a precisely defined construction period for the present building. The historical reference to the royal permission of 1548, on the other hand, concerns the Serbs and Vlachs living in Hunedoara and the replacement of an older church with a new building.
Water and Wellness
The Hunedoara swimming pool has two modern pools. The first pool is 25 m long and has six lanes. It is 1.90 m deep, and its water temperature is 29 °C. The second pool is 15 m long and 1 m deep. Its water temperature is 33 °C.
The two pools are therefore each characterised by their own specifications for length, depth and water temperature; the longer pool also has six lanes. Hunedoara swimming pool offers a beginners’ programme with specialised trainers for participants aged four and over. The facilities also include a sauna area. Hunedoara’s municipal beach complex has three pools, including a children’s pool.
