Discover Băile Chirui: Springs, Nature and Culture

At the entrance to Băile Chirui is the H503 well. It regularly releases a foaming fountain of carbonated mineral water. This makes a striking water feature an immediate part of the local landscape.

Băile Chirui lies on the road connecting Odorheiu Secuiesc with Miercurea Ciuc. The town of Vlăhița is located near Băile Chirui. From the main road, the signposted turn leads into the Chirui Valley. The sign gives the place name and the distance: “Băile Chirui – 5 km”.

There are three mineral springs near Băile Chirui. Their mineral content is 2–4 g/l. The springs also contain carbonic acid. One of these springs is called Festő and lies at the confluence of two streams.

The two streams are called Tolvajos and Köves. The name Festő comes from a nearby mill. At the end of the 19th century, this mill was used for grinding paint.

History

The buildings of the former pioneer camp in Băile Chirui are currently in a dilapidated condition.

Nature

Mlaştina Dumbrava Harghitei is home to relict plants. These plants include Saxifraga hirculus, Paludella squarossa and Drosera rotundifolia. The three species are therefore associated with this natural area.

There are four named peaks in the surroundings of Băile Chirui: Muntele Înalt, Piatra Cormoș, Vinului and Tiva. Each of these peaks is associated with the surroundings of Băile Chirui and adds a series of distinctive landscape names to the natural attractions.

Trails and Landscape

Trail 47 PA connects the DN13A near Piatra Cornului with Băile Chirui through the forest. The trail is suitable for mountain biking. The starting point on the DN13A is near Piatra Cornului, while the route leads through the forest to Băile Chirui.

The trail route thus marks a connection between two clearly named points: the starting point on the DN13A near Piatra Cornului and the destination in Băile Chirui. The forest lies between these points; the mountain-biking activity is explicitly linked to this route.

The Kalibás rock formation is located in the vicinity of Băile Chirui. It is a gate-like opening in a rock. This rock has fallen into the valley; the distinctive shape of the opening is therefore directly connected with its location in the valley.

Culture

The Casa Memorială Imre Nagy is located in the wider regional surroundings of Băile Chirui. It is a historic site. The Muzeul Municipal Haaz Rezso Odorheiu Secuiesc is also located in the wider regional surroundings. This destination is a museum.
