Discover Ciumani: Art, Churches and Mountain Views

The hiking route to the Amza summit begins in Ciumani near the Veresvirag ski slope and leads uphill to Vârful Amza. From there, it reaches the Belvedere Veresvirag viewpoint, offering views of the surrounding mountains.

The route described therefore connects the ski slope area, the summit and the viewpoint in a clear sequence. The landscape does not change its role in the process: the path leads uphill, while at the Belvedere the view across the mountains is the main focus.

Culture and History

The Casa Memorială Borsos Miklós in Ciumani has five exhibition rooms presenting the artist’s life and work.

The Roman Catholic church “Biserica Romano-Catolică Sfinții Petru și Pavel” was consecrated in 1878 by the Transylvanian Bishop Fogarassy Mihály and is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul.

The statue of Kossuth Lajos, created by Kollo Miklós, was unveiled in Ciumani in October 2001.

The Casa Tradițiilor was restored by local residents.

The monument “Sabia lui Sf. Ștefan”, created by the sculptor Santa Csaba, was inaugurated in 2000 as part of the celebrations for the new millennium.

Chapels and Traditions

The chapel of Săsești was consecrated in 1995.

Its patronal feast is celebrated on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, 25 March.

Below the Amza summit, in the Ciumani area, there is an unusual rock formation that popular belief regards as Jesus’ footprint.

Carved Szekler gates are regarded in Ciumani as a material expression of the conviction that the Szekler community should preserve valuable traditions dating back centuries.

The religious character of the area therefore includes both consecrated buildings and a designated feast day, as well as the rock formation on Amza. The Szekler gates, meanwhile, represent a visible, wooden form of the understanding of tradition described above.
