Bolovani: Nature, Church and Ancient Forests

Bolovani is a compact lowland settlement that developed at the intersection of the DJ 701 and DC 53A roads. This location connects the village with several surrounding road links and defines its geographical position within the municipality of Cornățelu.

Nature

In the southwest of the territory of the municipality of Cornățelu lies the Bolovani game reserve. It is designated as a protected natural area and is also a four-star nature reserve with a hunting profile. As a result, nature and wildlife exist side by side in this landscape: wild boar, deer, roe deer, pheasants and hares, among others, can be found there.

The characteristic trees include various species of centuries-old oak. They are considered part of the ancient Vlăsia forests and give the area a distinctly forested character. The old oak stands thus form a separate aspect of the natural environment alongside the hunting profile and the presence of the animal species mentioned above.

Water and Landscape

The Ilfov stream runs through Bolovani and continues its course through the Bolovani game reserve. Another body of water in the reserve is the Colentina. In summer, it does not carry water continuously within the Bolovani game reserve, but is more of a marshy area than a flowing watercourse. The Colentina is also known here as “Valea Moartă”.

There is also an artificial reservoir in the vicinity of the Bolovani game reserve. This reservoir has tourism potential, particularly in connection with sport fishing. The landscape around Bolovani therefore includes different forms of water: the Ilfov stream crossing the area, the section of the Colentina that becomes marshy in summer, and the artificial lake near the game reserve.

Geographical Location

The DJ 701 road passes through Bolovani and runs along this section between Moara Nouă, Cornățelu and Dobra. Bolovani is therefore integrated into a specific connection along this road. This places the village on this route between the aforementioned places of Moara Nouă, Cornățelu and Dobra.

The DC 53A road completes this geographical context: it connects Bolovani with Crângăși and with the DJ 711 road. Both roads are therefore among the named transport links through which the village is located within its immediate surroundings.

Culture

The “Sf. Nicolae” Church stands in Bolovani. It is also called “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” and “Sf. Voievozi” and dates from 1835. Its period of construction points to a long local building history. The construction year 1835 places its creation in the 19th century; the three traditional names represent different forms of the same building’s name. As a historic monument, the church is registered under code DB-II-m-B-17360. The three traditional names and the monument registration form part of the historical classification of this building.

Experiences

The village festival “Fii satului Bolovani” was scheduled for the last Saturday in May. The date is therefore one of the named local event notices and complements the village’s natural and cultural features with a connection to village life.
