Nature and geographical setting

In the Răchițele area of Mărgău commune lie Valea Stanciului and Cascada Răchiţele, also known as Cascada Vălul Miresei; together, they form a nature area protected at county level. Cascada Răchiţele, also called Cascada Vălul Miresei, is located on Valea Stanciului in the Răchițele area of Mărgău commune; several of the routes described run through Valea Stanciului.

Pietrele Albe is a limestone complex with caves, shafts and vertical walls in the Răchițele and Săcuieu areas. Vârful Lespezi lies at an altitude of 1,340 m and offers a 360-degree panoramic view over the valley.

Hiking trails and accessibility

The Circuitul Răchițele starts from the village of Răchițele towards Valea Stanciului and follows the route for approximately 5 km to Cascada Vălul Miresei before returning to the Salvamont Răchițele refuge. The approximate distance refers to the section of the route leading to the waterfall; the circuit then includes the return to the refuge.

The Circuitul Pietrelor Albe loop trail leads from Răchițele via Valea Stanciului and past Cascada Vălul Miresei to an exposed, impressive ridge.

The Salvamont Răchițele refuge can be reached by car from the village of Răchițele; the paved road runs through Valea Stanciului and Valea Seacă.

The PA loop trail connects Cabana Vlădeasa with the Răchițele – Vălul Miresei waterfall and also leads to Pietrele Albe. Classified as a difficult hike, it includes more than 2,500 metres of elevation gain and takes approximately 12 to 13 hours. In winter, it is passable depending on the amount and quality of the snow.

The routes mentioned therefore cover both the Valea Stanciului valley area and the prominent destinations of Cascada Vălul Miresei and Pietrele Albe. Depending on the route, the description ends at the waterfall, on a ridge or at other points mentioned in the regional trail network.

Culture and regional heritage

The ethnographic collection of Răchițele includes festive women's and men's traditional costumes, woven textiles displayed on the wall, household items and traditional furniture.

The ethnographic collection from Răchițele is housed in a room at the local school. Cupa Răchițele, a national ice-climbing championship, was held at Cascada Vălul Miresei between 2004 and 2014.
