Hiking and Landscapes

The difficult hiking trail marked PR connects the village of Telciu with the ridge of the Rodna Mountains near Șaua Bătrânei. It has an elevation gain of more than 1,600 metres and takes approximately 10 to 11 hours. A route with this elevation difference and duration requires suitable day planning; current information on trail conditions should be checked before setting out. For a long mountain hike, hikers should plan for the entire day, including breaks. Before setting out, it is advisable to check current trail conditions and allocate the time available for the day accordingly.

The Izvorul Tăușoarelor Cave is located in the Rodna Mountains. It is a tourist destination in the area around Telciu and is included in Rodna Mountains National Park. Churches and Monastery Complexes

The Orthodox Church of Telciu is a masonry church dedicated to Saint Hierarch Nicholas and built between 1900 and 1913. Its interior paintings and iconostasis were created in 1921 in the Oriental style.

The Telcișor-Buscatu monastery complex, on the other hand, includes a wooden church built between 1995 and 1997 in the Maramureș style, four hermit cells and a summer altar. The wooden church, hermit cells and summer altar together form this monastery complex and distinguish it in its architectural composition from a single masonry church building.

In the wider regional area around Telciu are three monasteries and one monument: Mânăstirea Ortodoxă Moisei Monastery, the Bustul lui Mihai Eminescu Săliştea de Sus Monument, Mânăstirea Dragomireşti Monastery and Mânăstirea Ieud Monastery.

Customs and Cuisine

Christmas caroling is one of the customs in Telciu. It is performed at windows or at the entrance door of the enclosed porch before entering the house. The custom is tied to the moment before entering the house.

The 17th edition of “Zilele festive ale comunei Telciu” took place on 15 and 16 August 2026 at Centrul Multicultural Telciu. For an event held on specified dates, the start times should also be checked in advance, in addition to the event days, for personal day planning.

Traditional festive dishes passed down in Telciu include sarmale, cozonac, pork sausages, Călbaș (Cartaboș), Toba and ribs cooked in sauerkraut brine. Red eggs, lamb dishes, Pasca and Turtițe have also been passed down.
