Sălciua de Sus is home to the Muzeul Etnografic Valer Butură, an ethnographic museum named after the ethnographer Valer Butură. The museum was inaugurated on October 20, 2010. The beginnings of the Muzeul Etnografic „Valer Butura” Salciua go back to the teacher Vasile Bolog, who collected old objects and displayed them in a room at the local school. As part of the development of the Muzeul Etnografic „Valer Butura” Salciua, teacher Vasile Campean organized archaeological excavations together with specialists, during which objects from ancient periods came to light.

The museum's history is therefore connected with two teachers and different ways of engaging with the past: Vasile Bolog collected old objects and made them accessible at the school, while Vasile Campean organized archaeological excavations together with specialists. The museum combines this history of collecting with the objects from ancient periods that were later brought to light.

According to the municipality, Sălciua de Sus has been documented since 1370. Possible traces of Roman-era gold extraction by washing are recorded on the banks of the Arieș toward Sălciua de Jos. A variant of the Roman road regarded as more plausible ran from the Sălciua depression through Sălciua de Sus toward Brăzești and onward to Baia de Arieș.
