It lies within the Sítio de Importância Comunitária do Alvão/Marão Natura 2000 site, which is home to one of the most significant and best-preserved populations of Veronica micrantha.

The PR2 VPA, “Trilho Interpretativo das Aves de Rapina”, starts and ends in the churchyard of the parish church of Telões. The route lies within the Alvão/Marão Natura 2000 site and offers opportunities to observe birds of prey. Information boards and an observatory near Castelo de Aguiar da Pena complement the nature experience. The PR3 VPA, “Trilho Terras de Ouro”, starts and ends at an information board opposite the Centro Social Comunitário do Planalto de Jales in Alfarela de Jales. Along the way, it passes the Pelourinho de Jales, a 16th-century Manueline pillory.

The Aguiar Nature network also includes five circular, signposted environmental trails in a classified natural area. At Lagoa do Alvão, also known as Barragem da Falperra, a lakeside leisure park surrounded by extensive woodland lies beside a lake with distinctive rock formations. The Centro de Educação Ambiental presents the biodiversity and ecosystems of Lagoa do Alvão. An educational exhibition and a laboratory are used to observe wild animals. The Trilho dos Mamíferos Aquáticos starts at the centre and is approximately 5 km long.

The Ponte Romana do Arco was built over the River Pinhão during Roman times and has been classified as a Monumento de Interesse Público since 2015. Its connection with Roman gold mining in Jales and Tresminas forms part of its historical significance.

Museum, thermal park and regional characteristics

The Museu Municipal Padre José Rafael Rodrigues displays archaeological collections in six exhibition areas illustrating six periods of settlement in the municipality. Since April 2007, the museum has been housed in the former Casa do Condado. In the Parque Termal de Pedras Salgadas, the Balneário Termal, the former casino and several named thermal springs form part of the local scene. Água das Pedras can be tasted there directly at its source, in other words in its unchanged spring state.
