Consisting of a simple column on three circular steps, the structure is topped by a cone-shaped element bearing an armillary sphere and the coat of arms of the abbots of Alcobaça. The development of the village also dates back a long way. Cela received its first charter in 1286. In 1514, King Manuel I granted the village a new charter under the name Cela Nova. Another historical layer can be seen in the parish church of Santo André, the Igreja de Santo André: the church was rebuilt in 1909 in Neo-Manueline architecture and preserves gargoyles from the earlier church.
