Two circular trails showcase different sides of the surrounding area: The approximately 12.5 km-long, easy short-distance hiking trail “No trilho da Sra. da Consolação às Margens do Cávado” passes through Fornelos, Gilmonde and Vila Seca. The also circular “No Trilho do Monte da Franqueira” is approximately 12 km long and rated “algo difícil” (III). Faria Castle and Franqueira

One of Gilmonde’s most prominent historical features is Faria Castle. The ruins and the archaeological site below them, located in the parishes of Gilmonde and Milhazes, were classified as a National Monument by Decree-Law No. 40684 of 13 July 1956. Faria Castle is located in the parish of Gilmonde, also extends into several neighbouring parishes, and is considered the most important archaeological site in the municipality of Barcelos. It is documented as early as 1128.

Another cultural landmark is the Igreja e Convento da Franqueira at the Senhor da Fonte da Vida site in the parishes of Pereira and Gilmonde, in the municipality of Barcelos and the Braga District. It is classified as a monument of public interest. The current building was constructed in the 16th century and expanded and remodelled between 1678 and 1708. Seven chapels of the Passos remain in the surrounding area.
