Terras De Bouro combines Roman history with activities by the water. The Via Romana XVIII, also known as the Geira, runs through the municipality; the Ecovia do Rio Homem offers a specific route for walking and leisure. The history of the Termas de Moimenta also offers a different perspective on wellbeing and relaxation. Regional history, a linear riverside route and the historical theme of the thermal baths thus appeal to different travel interests.

The Geira in the municipality

The Via Romana XVIII, also known as the Geira, runs through Terras De Bouro from milestone XIV at Santa Cruz to milestone XXXIV at Albergaria and is classified as a National Monument. These two milestones give the route a defined span within the municipality. Its classification also recognises it as a monument of national importance. This is a different measure from that of the 2.8 km Ecovia: the Geira is defined by its milestone sections and its course through the municipality, while the Ecovia is defined by its length and two named endpoints. For travellers interested in history, the Geira offers a regional perspective that extends beyond a single place.

Walking by the Rio Homem

The Ecovia do Rio Homem is a 2.8 km walking and leisure trail along the banks of the Homem River in the Freguesia de Moimenta, municipality of Terras De Bouro. As a linear route, it starts at Zona Costa D’Além, follows the riverbank, passes a weir and Praia Fluvial de Moimenta—also known as Praia Fluvial do Rio Homem—and ends at Ribeiro da Devesa. Both names for the Praia refer to the same point along the route; Ribeiro da Devesa marks its endpoint. The trail has a low difficulty level, is almost flat and has a regular, paved surface. These features make it easier for people with reduced mobility to use, as well as for outings with strollers; they also support safe family outings. When planning, it is helpful to consider both the distance and the linear route, including its start and end points.

The history of the Termas de Moimenta

The Termas de Moimenta opened on 5 July 2010. They were focused on treatments for respiratory and musculoskeletal conditions, rheumatic complaints and skin diseases; sessions for wellbeing and relaxation were also offered. The sulphurous waters of the Termas have been known to the people of Terras De Bouro for several decades for their reputed healing properties. Anyone interested in the history of thermal baths and local wellness themes will find a distinct perspective here, alongside the Geira and the river trail.

Getting your bearings and finding a holiday apartment

The Posto de Turismo de Moimenta is located in the centre of Vila de Terras De Bouro and serves as a starting point for exploring the municipality and Vale do Homem. When choosing a holiday apartment, a clear travel focus can provide a useful basis for comparison: if spending time by the river is to shape your stay, factor in the Ecovia’s length and linear route as you plan. For historical interests, the Geira offers a different focus. Then check which location suits your planned activities.
