On Lake Raduń: Bridge, Rentals and Water Sports

At 229 ha, Lake Raduń is the largest body of water within Wałcz’s administrative boundaries. The Kłosowski Bridge, also known as the Suspension Bridge, connects its two shores. The bridge, which is for pedestrians only, crosses a narrow section of the lake and shortens the route to the forest on the opposite shore. A walk across the bridge and views of the water are therefore among the distinctive features of this lakeside area.

Kayaks, boats and pedal boats are available for hire at the Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji on Lake Raduń; check current availability before your visit. Near COS OPO, the lake has rowing and canoe racing courses, along with the associated facilities, where competitions are held. Rentals and competitive sports give the lake different points of interest, without requiring both to be part of the same day’s plans.

Lakeside Promenade and Routes for Different Excursions

The Wałecka Aleja Gwiazd is a lakeside promenade route in eastern Wałcz, on Lake Raduń. It begins near the Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji. Metal plaques set into the pavement are each dedicated to another athlete. The promenade thus combines a connection to the lake with a tribute to athletes.

When choosing a route, you can start by comparing distances and itineraries. The black Wałcz–Kłębowiec route is 7 km long and passes through Pluskota and Rudnica; the green Wałcz–Czapla–Wiesiółka route is 12 km long. A 6 km walking trail runs between Wałcz, Pluskota and Kołatnik. The 13.7 km walking route starts at Wałcz PKS bus station and passes allotment gardens, a bridge over the Dobrzyca and Lake Łubianka before reaching the ZHP base and Ostrowiec PKS bus station. Another walking route, 4 km long, runs between Ostrowiec and the Leśniczówka Wałcz forester’s lodge.

For a cycling route, there is the 40 km Trasa Grupy Warownej Cegielnia: marked with name signs, it passes through Kołatnik, Pluskota, Nakielno, Strączno, Chwiram and Wałcz before returning to Kołatnik. Canoe routes are also available in the Wałcz area on the Dobrzyca, Piława and Rurzyca rivers. The distances and itineraries make it easier to distinguish shorter walks, longer hikes and a cycling route; the river routes offer another option for days on the water.

Routes and Historic Landmarks in Wałcz

The Szlak wałeckich zabytków runs along the shore of Lake Raduń and then continues to the Aleja Gwiazd; it ends with a visit to the Grupa Warowna Cegielnia open-air museum. The Trasa Grupy Warownej Cegielnia also leads to the open-air museum in Wałcz, where a sightseeing break is planned. Both routes include the same place, but each incorporates it into a different itinerary.

The Muzeum Ziemi Wałeckiej is located in the centre of Wałcz, at the intersection of Pocztowa and Orla streets, where the Orla Peninsula on Lake Zamkowe begins. Another historic feature is the Pomeranian Wall fortification line, which runs through Wałcz along the shore of Lake Raduń. The museum, lakeside route and fortification line thus offer different starting points for exploring the town.

Science Centre and Beech Forest Area

At the “Metalowe Inspiracje” Local Science Centre, visitors can use a flight simulator and driving simulators for cars, forklifts and excavators. The centre has an educational play area for younger visitors. Practical courses are planned on topics including physical chemistry, IT, renewable energy and LEGO construction, as well as activities in the simulator laboratory featuring elements of robotics, mechanics and technology. The centre combines simulators with learning and play themes; the courses are planned as part of its programme.
