Old Town, Architecture and Culture

A section of the town fortifications remains clearly visible in the preserved Nowogródzka Gate. The historic Dutch windmill at ul. Szkolna 8 is another historic building in the town. The late Baroque town hall combines architectural features of the Rococo and early Neoclassical periods. The Collegiate Church of St John the Baptist stands next to the market square. These places show different sides of the town’s history: fortifications, mill architecture, and public and religious architecture.

Four exhibitions can currently be visited at the Muzeum Pojezierza Myśliborskiego: “Myślibórz we wczesnym średniowieczu”, “Z dziejów Myśliborza” and “Historia i etnografia”, as well as the “M” Gallery of contemporary art. Early town history, historical development, ethnography and art thus sit side by side as distinct cultural themes. The more recent history of Myślibórz is also associated with Saint Faustina Kowalska and Blessed Michał Sopoćko. The town is home to both the Myśliborskie Sanktuarium Miłosierdzia Bożego and the Dom Macierzysty Zgromadzenia Sióstr Jezusa Miłosiernego.

Jezioro Myśliborskie and Water Sports

Jezioro Myśliborskie is well suited to recreation and water sports. There are two swimming areas by the lake in Myślibórz, monitored by WOPR lifeguards: at ul. Szarych Szeregów and in the os. XX-lecia PRL estate. These locations help you distinguish between the two specific bathing spots. The marina’s facilities are also worth considering for a holiday focused on water: kayak trips can be arranged there on Jezioro Myśliborskie and the Myślą River. Sailing and rowing boats are available for hire at Marina Szkuner.

The scale of the lake district is also notable: the Gmina Myślibórz includes more than 20 lakes. The largest is Jezioro Myśliborskie, covering 617 ha. If you would like to include indoor swimming as well as time by the lake, Myślibórz has the Pływalnia Kryta, with five 25 m lanes.

Cycling and Events

The 60 km cycling leg from Myślibórz to Barlinek and Choszczno has been completed in its entirety. It runs mainly along paved cycle paths built on a former railway line. The route length gives you a specific point of reference for planning your day; you can consider the ride as a separate activity alongside the lakeside options. The Pojezierzy Zachodnich route, which passes through the Gmina Myślibórz area, is a different route.

Recurring events include the Jarmark Klasztorny, organised by the museum every year around the turn of May and June. This open-air festival has a historical and cultural character. The Spotkania Młodych Autorów i Kompozytorów Piosenki „SMAK“ im. Jonasza Kofty takes place every September: young singers, authors, composers and performers take part, while established composers and artists lead workshops for participants. The Dni Myśliborza is a recurring open-air event for residents of the town and surrounding area, as well as for tourists.
