Swimming and fishing at Lake Steklno

Covering 47.5 hectares, Lake Steklno is the official and only bathing area in Gryfino municipality. Swimming is permitted there under the supervision of lifeguards from 10:00 to 18:00. This gives you a clear time frame for planning a day out with children: plan your swimming day around these supervised hours.

Fishing is subject to different requirements. In a notice dated 25 April 2025, the Polish Angling Association (PZW) described a ten-year usage agreement as the basis for fishing. Under this agreement, association members can fish if they have paid the required district or time-based fees; non-members can fish after obtaining a temporary permit. Before planning a fishing trip, check which fees or permits apply to you. This makes it possible to plan a swimming day and a fishing day according to their respective requirements.

A heritage highlight in the area

The churchyard cemetery in Steklno was entered on the voivodeship register of historic monuments in August 1989. This register entry adds a cultural and historical dimension to the area's profile alongside the lake. If you do not want to choose your accommodation solely based on water activities, this heritage feature can also be part of your considerations.

Gryfino in the wider Greifenhagen destination

Gryfino adds its own highlights to the wider Greifenhagen destination. Its historic town layout still clearly reflects its origins as a town founded in the 13th century. The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary regularly hosts choir concerts and the Gryfińskie organ music concerts. Gryf Cinema also offers special events: it screens film premieres and 3D showings, is one of the smallest cinemas in Poland, and is the only cinema in Gryfino County. If you are planning to attend a concert or screening, check the specific dates in advance.

On the right bank of the Eastern Oder, Gryfino's waterfront serves passenger ships and water tourism. It is also connected to the Zachodniopomorski Szlak Żeglarski network. This network links tourist harbours and marinas in West Pomerania with German waters along the Oder, the Szczecin Lagoon and the Baltic coast. A cycling path runs along the entire waterfront promenade, where there is also a free public toilet.

Two route details are particularly useful for cyclists: one cycling path runs from Jana Pawła II Street in Gryfino through Wełtyń to Gardno. The section of the 257-kilometre Blue Velo route associated with Gryfino is about 46 kilometres long. It runs mainly along former railway embankments, as well as forest paths and public roads with light traffic. There is also an unsupervised bathing area on the bank of the Eastern Oder in Gryfino, where swimming is prohibited. This clearly distinguishes it from the supervised bathing area at Lake Steklno.

Gryfino's transport links may also be relevant when planning a trip to the wider Greifenhagen destination. Gryfino can be reached from Szczecin via National Road 31.
