Stepniczka – Village History and Hiking Trails

Stepniczka combines a local history dating back to 1291 with hiking trails through the village and leisure opportunities by the water. The first historical mention of Stepniczka dates from 1291. At the time, Dukes Bogusław IV, Barnim I and Otto I transferred two-thirds of the village to the Hospitaller Gerhard of Goleniów. Another chapter in the village’s history began in 1748, when a half-timbered church was built on the church grounds. Half-timbering is a construction method using a load-bearing timber frame, which gives an idea of the former church’s construction. The building no longer stands; it was demolished after 1945. This makes it possible to distinguish the church’s construction in the 18th century from its later demise.

A stone obelisk stands at the site of the former church. A row of several oak trees runs along the southern boundary of the former churchyard; their trunks measure between 70 and 100 cm in diameter. Hiking Trails Through Stepniczka

The green-marked ZP-1007 hiking trail passes through Stepniczka and forms part of a route crossing municipal boundaries from Golczewo to Wolin. The “Stepnicko-Rokicki” trail also passes through the village; it is described as a green-marked hiking trail with a total length of 92 km.
